Q: What has happened to Apple?

Okay.  I've been an Apple fan since the beginning, but things are falling apart...  Mavericks is buggy.  Mac Mail hangs ALL OF THE TIME..  I've never had to force quit as much as I do now.  My iPhone/iPad is buggy and iTunes is just going nuts.  If I go to a song, it just starts flipping out and moving to other songs (and it never did that before)...  Sometimes when I end a call, it never ends until I shut down my iPhone and restart it...  And don't get me started on final CutPro X.  I really hope that Apple follows Steve Job's ideas, because since his passing, Apple has not been as reliable and as awesome as it used to be..  Please fix...  I'm using the latest MBP Retina and newest iMac and iPhone.   (I liked the way it was.  I wish I could downgrade)...  Thanks..

I totally agree with everything the author of this post has said.

I have been a long time apple fan as well.

It is absolutely unacceptable that a vendor like apple demands premium prices for their products and has embarassing bugs that should never have happened in the first place.

It has now been several weeks - i still can't upgrade my Mac Mini 2013 model to Mavericks because it continually encounters errors (despite doing every single step i have seen online).  I am not prepared to call the so called apple geniuses because frankly they bore me and i am normally guiding them through troubleshooting methodology.

As for my iOS device - lets not even go there... the music player randomly crashes....

i could go on and on.

But I will just say - apple needs to fix their SH**. It is embarassing that a company who builds their own hardware and software in so called harmony to have users like me experience upgrade issues each and every time a new OSX comes out. For now i am sticking to mountain lion.

No, worst and "worser."

What are you talking about. Just stick the CD in and add it to your iTunes Library. If you have the preferences set up, it will start the import automatically.

Where do you get this crap? Do you make it up to bolster your argument?

Have you seen the latest iCloud version of iWork? OMIG, it's not worth the digital imprint it takes up in cyberspace.  You can't do anything with Pages but the most, most, most basic commands. Of course, it's "Free."  Don't bother taking this free offer.

Pretty much works like all the other online document tools I've used in the past, except it shows up on my Mac and my iPad without any work on my part.

No, you are not forced to use iCloud, or any other cloud, but it is the easiest. You will need a CalDAV and CardDAV server.

OSX Server has them, or you can use any open source servers like this one: http://baikal-server.com

I would guess your problem is with google.  I can see you're running google software update which is a vicious program that does software updates without user intervention.

Let me respond about iCloud Pages vs the older CD version.  I do a newsletter for a professional organization. On the CD Pages version, I have 14 varieties of newsletter templates.  Each one offers numerous pre-formatted template pages, so that I can insert additional pages that follow the original newsletter theme, but have different ways to design inserted pages. On iCloud Pages, there are only four newsletter templates.  I cannot find a way to insert any other pre-formatted pages for any other iCloud Pages newsletters.  I guess apple has decided we only need a one page newsletter.

The one I recently completed has 12-14 pages with different ways to layout pages in a variety of styles.  This is impossible in iCloud Pages. For example, I have the following choices for pages to insert in the layout I use:  Cover; Photo Collage; Sidebar and three notecards; Two column with sidebar; plain text page; back page; mailer and blank.  It is easy to make a terrific looking newsletter that our organization is proud to send out to its members.  None of this is possible with icloud Pages.  There are also a lot of formatting commands that have just disappeared in the cloud version.  I go to One-to-One sessions at my local Apple store. The Creatives there are appalled at how much has been lost in the "new" cloud version.

About music.  Yes, you can add the CDs to iTunes, but then it all has to get synched via the cloud.  People are reporting that some music purchased and not purchased through iTunes is going to the cloud has disappeared when it is supposed to come back to your device.  There is no longer an option to sync directly from iTunes on your computer via cable with Mavericks, which is more stable. Apple just does not have a reliable iCloud interface--echoing the misery of Mobile Me.

For as long as I can remember, every new version of the MacOS has been buggy until it gets to version 0.4 or 0.5. Mountain Lion was a real dog when it first came out. Now look at it - everybody loves it.

The same thing will happen with Mavericks, which for the moment should not be adopted as the main OS that you use for running a business or doing serious work. That will come later.

Apple has eliminated the ability to use iTunes to sync your contacts and calendars but not music. Music does not have to get synced to the cloud. iTunes Match is an optional product that has had it's issues since it was first released. Whether Mavericks has improved iTunes Match or made it worse I cannot tell. I finally got all my songs matched last spring - that was when Mountain Lion was the shipping OS. I can certainly assure you that syncing your music to your iOS devices works as it used to - Mavericks hasn't changed that.

Lots of 3rd party deamons on your system.  Try two things...1) create a new user account, log into it and use your computer normally.  This will see if the problem is with your user loaded deamons.  2) boot into safe mode (hold shift at chime) and use your computer.  This will see if the problem is with your 3rd party system deamons.
