Saved by Another Application

I have upgraded to Mavericks OSX and Numbers 3. I have two spreadsheets on my desktop that were originally produced in Numbers 2: they appear to have upgarded to Numbers 3 style etc. When I open these spreadsheets, I get a message to the effect that the sheet has been saved by another application(?) with a revert/save anyway option. Grateful for advice on how to resolve this conflict. Thanks.

Perhaps you can export the file as a Numbers '09 - file.

See Archive > Export > ...

The new file is a Numbers 3 file. It is clearly being saved in 2 places at once. I have tried changing the file name and that doesn't work. Not a big issue - just annoying.
