Wired keyboard doesn't work with Mac Book Pro

I have a apple wired usb keyboard (the aluminium one with the numerical keys), and have been using it without problem with my mac mini (Late 2012). I've just got a brand new 13" mac book pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) and it doesn't work in the usb ports.

Both the usb ports work, as they recongised my mouse, but the keyboard continues not to work with the mac book, but does with my mac mini.

The keyboard is now well out of warrenty.

Try plugging a thumb drive into the keyboard and THEN connecting the keyboard. My 13 retina is doing the same thing as well, but the keyboard works just fine on other laptops.

Update: if I use a USB extender it works! This is really strange....

Usually just using the USB extension cable that comes with the Apple USB extended keyboard will work. You shouldn't have to plug in another USB device.

Thanks, Clinton. This was actually someone else's keyboard and computer, and she has no idea where her extension cable is! Happy for the "backup" solution with the USB drive!

This just worked for me too, I´ve been having trouble with my keyboard for ages, it works on and off, but as soon as i plugged in the extender cable, it worked fine! Why?

I''m having this same issue and it does now work with the extension cable. Seems strange that it won't work directly. Wish Apple would address that! Thanks.
