Not purchased PDFs not syncing from mac ibooks to iPhone ibboks

Hi,

I have Macbook Air with Recently updated mavericks OSX. I have lots of PDF files on my mac (usually e-tickets of airlines) which i drag and drop to ibooks for mac. Now they are not syncing to ibooks for my iphone 5, iOS 7.0.3. The ibooks icloud syncing is ON for both the devices but i am not able to sync such PDFs to and from from and to mac and iphone. Please help.

Regards,

Vikas

I am having basically the same problem. I read a lot of journal articles and I frequenly download them to my Mac. However, I want to read them on my iPad. With iTunes, I could do this with no problem at all. Simple drag and drop. But now, since iBooks on Mac, nothing that I did not purchase will sync with my iPad. Yes, I have used the same Apple ID on all devices, and yes, the sync buttons are on on all devices. Still nothing. I'm open to any suggestions. This is the second time Apple has come out with a cloud-based solution that caused nothing but problems (the previous one was with Notes when Mountain Lion came out).

Same problem. Why Apple, did you take away the sync to devices from iTunes when you introduced iBooks on the Mac? I typically use either my iPhone or iPad to read my PDF's and eBooks from other sources other than purchased from Apple Store.

So, the nudge of workaround now:

1) Email the eBook or PDF to myself from my Mac

2) Open the email with attached book on my iPhone and/or iPad

3) Select open in iBooks on those devices to get it into the device's library on iBooks

WHAT A NUDGE. What was Apple thinking?

Craig, I found the same work around, and it does work. I also found that I have to be sure that I push the PDFs into the PDF catagory on the Mac iBooks - putting them in the default All Books doesn't work.

So these work arounds do work, but why should we have to figure out all of this? Hasn't Apple's motto been "It just works"? Well, the iCloud syncing (and wifi syncing with iTunes - butt that's another discussion) does not work.

Same situation. Items added to iBooks on iMac do not sync across devices! Purchased items are the only ones syncing. Why have iBooks on iMac if there is no syncing?

Before, I used to add files to Dropbox on the iMac and on other devices open them in iBooks and it worked. Making iBooks on macs should eliminate these extra steps not create new problems.

i have same problem, doesnt sync at all. Sending files by emails is ridiculous. Im going to get rid of macbook...

Did you try this?

Open up the iBooks app on your Mac (the one that came with Mavericks), click on the 'File' tab up the top, then click on 'move books from iTunes'.

After doing this all my PDF's now sync like normal

I tried that. It does not work for me. I get a few books to appear from iTunes into iBooks. Getting them into iBooks on the Mac has never been the problem There are lots of way to do that. The problem is, they STILL not not sync with my iPad. And now they are gone from iTunes so i am not sure what is going to happen the next time I try to sync the iPad with iTunes. Luckily I have a Time Capsule backup so I can restore if I have to.

I guess the bottom line, based on several other threads, is the only solution is to kill iBooks, move it to an obscure corner of your Launch Pad (since you can't totally delete it) and go buy an third party app that will work. Apple has release several updates to Mavericks, and so far there is nothing on the horizon about restoring any of the sync ability that Mavericks took away - iTunes sync wirelessly with the iPad and iPhone, or, like here, iBooks syncing across Apple platforms.

I came here looking for a solution to same problem. I have a lot of purchased ibooks but wanted a 3rd in series that they do not have. I got it elseware but it would not transfer from Mac to iphone/ipad.

I tried 3 times without success.

Then I tried this and it worked, for me at least

plug in iphone to mac (open itunes)

click iphone (near top right of itunes)

click Books

top left where it says Sync Books - (insteade of choosing 'All Books') choose 'Selected Books'

then tick all the books you want on ipad/iphone even if you tick all of them.

hit sync

that worked for me
