Q: iPhone 4 will not restore (Error 4005).

Recently my iPhone 4 turned off when I took it off charge. When I put it back on charge at the wall it displays the 'connect to itunes' message.

When I plug it in to my laptop it doesn't even make a noise to show it has recognised anything.

I now have to open itunes manually (it used to come on as soon as the iphone was plugged in) and put the iphone in to DFU mode.

After this, itunes recognises the phone, but says it needs a restore. About 5 minutes in to the restore process the laptop makes noises as though the iphone is being plugged in and out.

Eventually it displays the message 'The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4005).

Things I've tried so far -

  • Reinstalling itunes
  • Repairing 'Apple Mobile Device Support'.

  • Phone was on iOS 7.0.3, downloaded about 2 days prior to breaking.

Hopefully someone can help,

Thanks.
