My iSight camera not working on iMac with skype! Any ideas?

This is not working - any thoughts on why the iSight does not work with any version of Skype any more? Thank you.

Either your software is damaged or you have conflicts with some third party (non-Apple) software that you have added. Try this to troubleshoot and find out what to fix:

Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

If Skype is your only trouble app, reinstall it. If the problem continues ONLY for Skype, search or post in Skype's dedicated Mac Skype Community.

If you have trouble with more than one camera app, Reinstall OS X.

Thank you for your reply - I'll give these a try. It is basically a Skype issue. FaceTime, Google Chat, etc. all work. Camera works just fine. I have reinstalled older and newer versions of Skype. I've been avoiding having to teach my elderly parents a new way to video chat.... I think I may have reached that moment ;-). Thank you again.

You're welcome. Remember to troubleshoot both ends of the connection. The first thing I would suggest at the problem computer is to reinstall the latest version of Skype that is compatible with that computers OS. Sometimes the trouble is as simple as a bad download or install on the first try.
