Q: Info on New Retina Macbook pro 13 Haswell system hang/unresponsive

Thank you for putting all of this info together and in one place. 

I have had other errors, as well, including having my screen split while using safari and then dragging the window of the other program away from safari and having the place where it was, remain a blank box over the safari window. 

I have had a lot of trouble on youtube and other media sites, too. 

Youtube will not load properly on many videos.  My internet speed is super-fast and I do not have this problem on my other machines. 

It will try to load, play a few seconds and then stop.  Fifteen minutes later, it will appear that it's fully loaded, and when I attempt to play the video, it does not play.

I tried it but still have the error in the console.

I patched it and although It has not locked I to get the kernel message in syslog. What I wonder about the message is: wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2):, Is that two the severity level? if it is then it is a critial error.

Me too... in the Console I still see the

message logged once or twice a minute.

But after I've installed the EFI Update last Thursday, my rMBP keyboard hasn't freezed.

Maybe the message in the Console and the problem weren't directly related... who knows. Anyway, no more freezes so far, this is definitely good news to me.

Instead of opening a new thread I should have come here first (apologise for that).

Anyway the firmware update MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update 1.3 did not address the problem:

I see it coming there will be a lot of Macbook Pro recalls as it will turn out it cannot be fixed by software updated alone.

Is there anyone out there who not has experienced a freezing trackpad on a late 2013 Retina 13"?

But he did!  As I said he did it 2 days ago.

But it is not clear for me if resetting the PRAM requires a new installation of the EFI update?

Resetting PRAM and SMC will not affect existing software.  But there are many other things that may cause the computer to freeze, apart from the specific issue discussed in this thread.  Somebody migrating from an old PC may well need to update their third party apps, from the developers' websites.  Perhaps your brother could open a thread of his own and describe his system and the problem in more detail.

I will ask him to reset the pram and we will see and wait if the computer freezes again. He has been using the laptop (SSD 256 GB, 8GB RAM) since last Friday and the freezeing just happend for the first time this afternoon.

He was migrating from a 9 year old Windows laptop and I assume there is nothing that he would have had the chance to install on Maverick.

Has anyone any idea what's the deal with "App Nap" and if it causes more trouble than good in combination with the trackpad? 

I have a new 13" rMBP and App Nap is enabled while on power adapter.  I've not had any problems.

Maybe it is completely unrelated. But on my new Macbook Pro 15" Retina I often experience a sluggish scrolling responsiveness. But it only happens when I scroll with my two fingers -> let it go and read some text  -> and start scrolling again. And it is then when  the trackpad often will not register my gestures and it takes a second turn.

I was then reading about App Nap and thought the delay can be explained by that new feature. But I haven't it tested with App Nap disabled for some often used programs.

If you mean scrolling web pages in Safari, then a slow connection can sometimes do this.  The new Safari has some features that are designed to save energy, image loading etc that may cause old extensions problems. I sometimes have to make several attempts to go horizontally back or forwards between pages, using two finger swipe. 

I use "tap to click" exclusively, if that makes any difference. But no particular problem with slow scrolling.

Anyway I asked him to come here in order to post his experience.

But my brother resetted the PRAM and the trackpad didn't freeze since then. But will need to wait for some more days for a better clue.

I had the keyboard freeze after the EFI update. I resetted the PRAM and for now everything seems to be working. I'll let you know if the problem shows up again.
