Q: Messages Not Working in Mavericks 10.9

Hi there,

Anyone else having this problem?   My Messages is just not working.  I am logged in.   It lets me type a message, but then it just sits there and a few minutes later I get the red circle/ "!" saying it didn't go through.  I've tried logging in and out of Messages.  Restarting the computer of course.  Nothing.  I'm stuck.  I can't find another post on this so anyone else having this issue?

    Hi,

This is certainly a weird one.

(Have seen new email alert on FaceTime/iCloud).

I am not sure what else to suggest at present.

Does the com.apple.imessages.bag appear in both the Containers route  and the direct ~/Library/Preferences without being an alias in the ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Preferences ?

i.e if it exists in both places we will not know which the App is actually reading to launch.

I will check. I noticed when I turned iCloud back on the local items disappeared from keychain and was replaced with iCloud. Could it have something to do with keychain being checked in the iCloud settings?

Its an alias in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Preferences and an original in the ~/Library/Preferences folder. It is a plist file we are talking about right?

    Hi,

Yes.  At one time I had the item in both and it was a while before I noticed the one in Containers.... was not an Alias.

This would mean that deleting it in ~/Library/Preferences would have no effect as the Sandboxing Read and Write route would get to the other first.

It is late where I am and I will think on the Keychain and iCloud Keychain issue (I actually have my iCloud Keychain Off as I had issues with it and never got back to sorting it out)

    Hi,

    New thoughts.

In ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.soagent/Data/Library/Preferences  remove all the com.apple.messageshelper.xxx.plist items

Also remove (drag to Trash) the com.apple.soagent/plist

You will notice that these are actual .plist and NOT aliases to somewhere else.

No luck but I have been looking at my keychain again. I noticed this message:  "[Warning] IMSetKeychainData: -67808 -- Could not store data for service: ids   account: message-protection-key' as well as this one "[ICBLocalDictionary discoverLocalIAAccounts]: Unknown high level account" for all my apple ID linked email addresses. You think its back to the keychain not working correctly?

    Hi,

That does sound more like a Keychain Issue.

I am not an expert on this but I would start with two things.

    1) Try the Keychain First Aid  (it 's in the App menu drop down).

    2) Access the Keychain in ~/Library/Keychains and do a Get Info on all the items and check you have Read and Write Permissions and Own them.
