Dec 4, 2013 10:52 PM in response to JSAFby PeterBreis0807,Ars Technica has an interesting list of what is wrong in Mavericks, which is firming up my mind to skip it as I did Lion.
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/11/five-complaints-ars-readers-have-about-os-x -mavericks/
Xtra Finder (free) does a better job of tabs in Finder along with a whole lot more features, such as Cut and Paste, split windows and folders at the top of lists. It is customisable, unlke Mavericks' Finder.
Also the Tags in Mavericks are just plain annoying and badly implemented. There is a very long thread in the OSX forum bemoaning Tags alone. Much along the lines of here of "What were they thinking!"
Maverick has become a minefield of glitchs, gotchas, and gunnas.
Stick with Mountain Lion and add Xtra Finder, Default Folder and Tags to have a truly productive OSX without the havoc.

Dec 16, 2013 9:18 AM in response to achiavetta21by SQ Productions,There is a temporary solution if you don't mind going back to Pages '09 with your new Pages 5 document. Pages 5.0 gives you a choice export your Pages 5 document as "Pages '09". Export as "Pages '09" (make sure to label it as created for merging) and then open in previous version of Pages. Updating to Pages 5 did not destroy your previous 4.3 version. It's in your apps!
Now! If you were using a Numbers spreadsheet for your data source, and have also upgraded to the newer version on Numbers, you can follow the same workflow. You will have to export your spreadsheet as Numbers '09 and use that as your merge source. SO you will have to continue to open and work with your Pages '09 and Numbers '09 documents to do your merges until Apples provides us an update containing a mail merge workflow. Ugly I know, but it will tie you over. Apple never leaves you hangin' forever.

Dec 16, 2013 9:29 AM in response to SQ Productionsby fruhulda,Why ugly? Isn't it better to use the application that can do the job for the job?
-
Dec 16, 2013 9:41 AM in response to fruhuldaby SQ Productions,It's not that ugly. I don't mind that much. It took my 5 minutes out of my way to find this work around but it worked extremely well for me. Some people are annoyed to have redundant documents for the sake of using old functionality. If your extrememly organized and label your files diligently, it's not bad.

Dec 16, 2013 11:11 AM in response to SQ Productionsby PeterBreis0807,But what is the point of using the infewrior Pages 5 then?
Stick with Pages '09 and cut the problem out of the loop.

Nov 5, 2014 4:09 AM in response to achiavetta21by apple canuc,It takes some getting used to but I downloaded OpenOffice for Mac.
It's not nearly as user friendly as other mail merge sw but does not a bad job.

Sep 11, 2016 9:03 PM in response to achiavetta21by mctomczak,You can use a script called "Pages Data Merge" to accomplish this. The link follows.
