Does Mavericks slow down 2007 macbook pro?

Make sure your MacBook Pro meets Mavericks requiremennts > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements

Mavericks is a 5.35GB file and requries a high speed broadband connection and requires 8GB or more of available disk space.

Backup all important files before upgrading

Checked to see how much space is available ??

Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage

Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. It shouldn't slow your Mac down if there's ample storage space.

Always a good idea to run Disk Utilitiy and make sure the startup disk is ok before upgrading.

Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)

If DU reports errors, start up from your Mac install disc to make repairs.

Not to revive an old thread, but for people who find this page looking for answers, the answer for me was: H-E-double-hockey-sticks YEAH. Mavericks made my 2.4 kHz Macbook Pro with 6GB RAM much less usable. I spend an eternity waiting for beach balls to disappear, things I click on to activate, apps to start, etc.

Your Mac's hard drive maybe getting full?

Your Mac may have commercial Antivirus software that isn't needed.

If you have any hard drive "cleaning" software on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. this type of software can slowdown your Mac as well as cause data/file corruption.

Your Mac may have way too many applications launching at startup/login.

Your Mac may have old, non-updated or incompatible software installed.

Your Mac could have incompatible or outdated web browser extensions, plugins or add-ons.

Your Mac could have connected third party hardware that needs updated device drivers.
