YouTube videos don't start from beginning

Hi all,

Does anyone know why YouTube videos don't load from the beginning? I've searched online for a few days to see what's up, but apparently, no one else seems to be having this problem. It doesn't matter what browser I use, if I'm signed into my Google account at YouTube, a 48-minute long concert video that I've played before and that I want to listen to while working loads from past the middle point. I think I may have left off at that point some time ago, probably two months ago, but since then, I've played the video through hundreds of times and yet, still, the dam thing loads from that one point in the video! I think it's some kind of bookmarking bug in YouTube's stupid HTML5 player (any way to disable this thing??) but it follows me around no matter where I am!

Any help and/or guidance appreciated!

I don't think it has to do with the browsers, per se. I believe the problem is from YouTube somehow, like there is a bug with my account and the "bookmarks" feature, which, I'm assuming, autosaves where you last left off on a video. The only problem is that it seems to be stuck on that particular point.

The problem is there when I log in using Internet Explorer on a PC, or if I do the same with Firefox, Opera, etc. This leads me to believe that the problem is somehow from YouTube..?

Might be an incompatible Safari extension or third party plug-in ...

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.

Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings

Not empty the Safari cache.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.

Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar

Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.

If nothing above helped, you may have the YouTube HTML5 beta enabled.

Opt out here > YouTube

Now try a video.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for that. The problem seems to be from YouTube. It doesn't matter what browser I use and on *what computer* I am, be it home, or work, etc., if I am logged into my account and load that specific video (and a couple others, but I haven't checked which ones yet), it always, without fail, loads it from 39 minutes in. I think I could be in rural China or Nepal and if I log into YouTube from some local computer and load that video, it would start it from that point for some reason. I am really puzzled as to why this is.

I checked that link you just sent me and it says that I am not currenlty enrolled in the HTML5 Trial. Should I enroll in it to see if that fixes the issue?
