How do I re-enable USB Devices when they were disabled?

I always have a iphone USB cable plugged into my Mac and sync to wifi, and iphoto.

When I connected the iphone, a message popped up:

USB Devices Disabled

Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices.

I do not have any thing else plugged into USB ports. I removed the phone - and it did not show up in itunes or iphoto as being connected.

I have searched systems etc and can't work it out.

I don't have any USB enabled from the looks of things. And my Apple support ran out two months ago...

Thanks in advance!
