Can We Change Calendar Appearance?

I find the color scheme of the Calendar in Mavericks difficult to look at. I would like a more emphatic color for Today, as I can barely see it now. I do not see any way to change the appearance of the Calendar. Are there preferences or settings somwhere that allow us to change the appearance of the Calendar in Mavericks?

Anyone who understood basic gestalt patterns, visual design, or human factors would know that you don't right align a heading, like the date, & left align the activities that apply to that date. It's too easy to associate the wrong day with an activity. To make matters worse there's no visual separate, like a vertical line, between the days. I wish they'd fix this or give us the ability to do so.

I just tried to submit more or less the same comment, using the link mentioned above by Topher Kessler, only to find out that it seems not to be the right page for it. It asked me which version of iCalendar I'm using, giving the newest option as 4.something, whereas About Calendar on my Mac tells me the Mavericks version is Calendar 7.0. ***? Is there some more appropriate place to leave a comment, or does this show that they really don't give a s--t and haven't looked at reader comments on calendar for years?

It is what it is, now.

Apple has moved on to Yosemite, now.

So, do not expect any more UI or system updates to OS X Mavericks other than Security Updates for it, now.

Apple has its own version of ADHD, now!

Apple does not seem to want to fully "bake' a Mac OS X version any longer. They keep halting the development process at the .5 dot release (10.7.5, 10.8.5, 10.9.5) and that is that!

It's like they lose interest and can't wait to move on to a new OS X version before a full year has gone by.

Mavericks was not out long before Yosemite replaced it. I don't think Mavericks even lasted close to a year!

That's about as far as you can get with an annual release cycle. You're realistically not going to get an update out in less than two months, so the best you can hope for is .6.

I find the calendar visually very very difficult. I do not understand why there not some way to make the numbers more bold, the division between days more distinct, etc, etc, etc. I was even thinking of trying another calendar application, but it costs $20, and could have some problems. What do people think? Why can't apple fix this, give us choices of how we want the calendar to look. That should not be so hard, if they can give us all this other great stuff.

See my above statement.

Apple IS NOT UPDATING ANY OLDER OS X VERSIONS ANY LONGER!!!!

No more UI updates or tweaks. NONE.

Apple is on to OS X 10.11 El Capitán, now.

There is NOT going to be any system updates to older versions of OS X.

Apple may still support security updates for a little while longer to older versions of OS X and still allow updates to iTunes under older versions of OS X, but THAT IS IT!

Live with the way OS X 10.9 Mavericks looks and feels OR upgrade to the free El Capitán OR dial back to and pay to install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

I think the Calendar app in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is the same as it is in Mavericks.

And the Calendar has not improved that much in later versions of OS X.

If anything both Yosemite and El Capitán have, what I feel, is this gawawful flat 2D icon look, like iOS is, now, and I think it just looks gawdy and unappealing as a UI interface.

The Calendar app in the later OS X versions, may be just as unappealing.

Apple changed the look of many apps AFTER OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

So, if you do not like the look of what Apple did with certain apps, then you will need to search for alternatives that more suit your needs.

Its the way it is, now, and hasn't really changed since.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much for responding. I was not clear. I have a brand new 27 inch iMac, totally up to date, all new operating system. And the calendar still looks basically they same. They have done so many improvements and tweaks to everything else that I have to go an apple lesson to learn them. Yet the calendar is still just not visually good. I think the other poster here explained why it does not work for some people. There are facts about how our eyes look at visual matter that a graphic person understands better than myself. It was quite a relief to read this because I thought something was wrong with me. I cannot seem to adapt to this calendar and I have not used it for the last ten years. Now, with a new iMac, I really want to use it, to synch with my iPhone. I find the iPhone calendar easier visually, even though it is so small.

Thanks to the person who explained this.... I quote.
