Bluetooth not working since upgrade to Mavericks?

I am starting to get a little annoyed. First the Mail app unexpectedly quits (frequently) now bluetooth not working?

Bluetooth icon in toolbar. check

Menu shows Turn Bluetooth OFF (it thinks bluetooth is ON). check.

items listed in the list as Not Connected. check (wrong answer)

selected my bluetooth mouse. not connected. never responds.

checked batteries. good to go.

turned mouse off/on. green light shows active.

nada not connected.

iMac does not respond in anyway to request to connect to mouse or anything else.

Launched mouse preferences and tried to setup bluetooth mouse. nothing happened. no response.

Tried turning bluetooth OFF but no response. as if that option is not active? Still shows as ON. Turn bluetooth ON is grayed out.

rebooted my iMac.

Same drill. Same response. None of my bluetooth devices are connected. I have ipads, iphones, bluetooth devices for hearing aids, and of course my bluetooth apple mighty mouse. None are connecting.

Something new. tried connecting to iPhone again after reboot. Says Network not available?

Luckily I have a wired keyboard and mouse available until this is resolved.

grrrrr beginning to not like this Mavericks.
