It's just one of the many, many features that have been eliminated or changed. Leave feedback for the Pages team using the link in the Pages menu.

Thanks--- I voiced my thoughts to them. Very disappointed.
The three columns are messing me up too. I have also voiced my concerns to Apple. Don't mind three columns if they can be manipulated (add / delete / adjust-move) but the current setup ruins the headers I've used in all my documents.
Best place to provide feedback is rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.
Apple finds it much harder to ignore, because customers actually read it.

Will do. I love Pages, much better canvas than Word or others. But the footer thing, the lack on configuration, is annoying.
You can use tab setting to do this quite easily. Go into the footer and under Format->Layout just add as many tabs as you require. These can be left/right or center aligned...
No. You can't. It looks like you can, but you can't. At least not when working from a template.
Yes you can.
Have you tried? It is clumsy but it works.
Peter
I have tried. Please post screenshots.
Tried what? I just did what ChrisBe suggested.
You can't be bothered explaining what you have tried, and where you went wrong, but expect everyone else to go into extraordinary detail for you.
…and then come out with the flat "No. You can't."
Peter
It didn't look like it worked. It continued to hide portions of the footer text that were in the first column. Clumsy, is an understatement. Readers of this article should know that while the text may sometimes appear to be cut off, you can insert a carriage return to add a second line to the footer if necessary but even if the text looks cut off, it will print correctly.
They should also know that you look like a monkey. 😉
The resemblance is merely coincidental.
I actually am an ape.

Mine is supposed to read ...in the real word - name here
The point is that the middle column, seems to display on top of the text from the left column. It seemingly limits the number of characters that can be in the string. However, as I indicated before, it still prints out fine, despite what is displayed.
