Q: bluetooth connection problems

I have intermittent problems with the wireless on my 27 in late 2012 iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5.  It doesn't recognize the mouse or keyboard. This mostly happens on start up.    I don't know how to troubleshoot this problem.  My solution was to go buy a wired mouse and keyboard.  Ideas on how to troubleshoot and possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Try using Apple's Bluetooth Troubleshooting article to locate your problem. BTW please update your profile to show what version of OS X is installed on your computer and which iMac you own. If you don't know how please click Bluetooth Troubleshooting for instructions.

Thank you so much for pointing me to that article.

I did update my profile as you requested.  I guess I don't come to the support communities and didn't remember that my os and my equipment have changed over time.

My biggest problem is that on start up I don't have access to the bluetooth menu item.  I just have a user screen and can't log in because my keyboard and mouse aren't recognized.  I did read about wireless equipment possibly being a problem.  I will try moving my router farther away from my computer.  Again, thanks.

Bluetooth connections problems continued on and on.  I finally switched to wired mouse and keyboard and that solved my problems, totally.

I've noticed that the problem is only there if the Mac is not connected to the power source, but happens when using the battery. I currently use wireless bluetooth headphones and the magic mouse, both loose connection to bluetooth intermittently.  It's very frustrating and extremely annoying
