When imported a word document into pages (4 or 5) the page numbers seem to be uneditable.
And pages puts is on number in. Can the "word" page numbers be removed (and if so, how)?

I assume the page numbers where not propely imported or more likely are inside a table.
Go to the menu format/advanced/section or master template (last item) and choose make section objects selectable.
If you click then on the page numer the item that contains it shuld be marked with yellow ball handles. Remove it or what ever you want.

This is an answer that works in Pages 4. I haven't had time to try in Pages 5.
Word does some strange things with objects, page numbers, etc. that don't survive translation to Pages very well. Usually these things get converted to master or background objects. Go to Format > Advanced & choose Make master objects selectable & then go to Arrange & select Make background objects selectable. You still might not be able to click on them if they are behind text so you need to command-click outside of the margins & drag the cursor toward the object until it is selected. You can then use the Arrange menu to bring the object to the front.
