MainStage and TriplePlay guitar midi controller

Anyone here using the Tripleplay interface with Mainstage?

In my setup I have added the TP as a midi controller inside MainStage & it works perfectly fine to trigger both Apple software instruments and third party AU instruments.

So far, so good...

But TP also comes with AU software that can act as a "host" for AU software instruments. The advantage of running the AU software inside the TP interface is that it allows various midi parameters (pitch bend, sensistivity etc) to be saved with the patch. Great... except on my system it reliably, consistently hangs.

If I delete TP as a midi device in MainStage, it works fine - the TP software 'finds' the controller - but then I can't access any of the Apple instruments, only third party stuff hosted inside TP. It seems the TP hosting software goes looking for the controller and this clashes if MainStage also has it added as a controller.

Anyone else run into this? Any work-around? At the moment, I'm doing without the TP software, but it's a shame as while pitch bend is nice for violins - it's not so good for hammond organ...

Ok it's a post from 2014 that I'm responding to, but I have been working toward using tripleplay for my bands live show since it came out. Finally did a regular show sept 23, 2017 but many issues. It's a cover/bar band that goes from song to song w less than 2 beats between. No messing around.

Seems like everyone is using this tech for concert or recording not changing fast to keep em on the dance floor. Would love to email w you directly to share experiences.

Hi Stephen,

I'm looking for some help regarding using the FTP as a plug-in in mainstage. Everything works and this setup is one step away from being ready for a live show except getting the ftp to load the patches in the plug-in. I have to open the FTP plug-in and click "use here" for each mainstage patch. Any ideas? I've emailed fishman as well as posted to the vguitarforums. Looking for answers wherever i can.

Thanks!

Can't help I'm afraid - as you will see from my original post I cannot get the TP software to work if I also have TP added as a controller in Mainstage - which is the method I am using to direct midi to the built in software instruments.

Have you found a way to address the Apple software synths without adding TP as a midi controller? Sure there must be a way to run the midi from the TP plugin to the built in synths - but I haven't figured it yet...

Well after probably 3-4 hours of organizing my live setup is starting to work better. I heard from fishman today and there is just no way to switch patches in mainstage with FTP as the plug in and have the FTP patches change (in the plug in that is). So the way I have it working is to use mainstage and the fishman triple play standalone app side by side. So I send program changes messages to both and switch presets in mainstage and presets in FTP. It's essentially the same thing except you have two apps open at the same time (mainstage and FTP standalone). I'm controlling rotaries, master mute and volume all from my midi foot controller. Starting to work quite nicely.

Well, i'm not near my mac. From what i remember, I've always just setup the note data correctly. I also have a midi keyboard setup to play sounds as well. So try this In edit mode click on the concert title/name> assignments and mappings> then hit a note and it will highlight "notes" in the left column> click on that and for midi device select all. You could select just the fishman guitar or something here too. Like I said I have it setup for both the keyboard and Triple play to play the sounds. Also, I tried using the triple play fx plug in on the main output channel strip and it seems to work the same way. Only difference is its right there in mainstage. You still have to send program changes to it. Not sure if there is any difference running it as the plug in or stand alone. Sorry if thats more confusing. I can expand more this evening if need be. I'm also still new to mainstage. From reading the user guide a bit, i'm seeing there might even be some other options for this too. The panic button seems to be something I'll assign soon too. (stops hanging notes). Let me know if you need any more help.
