Calendar event alerts don't sync to iPhone

I have several Google Calendars connected to Calendar.app on my Mac (running Mavericks) and my iPhone (iOS7). When I create events on my Mac, the alert doesn't sync to my iPhone with the rest of the event details. However, when I create alerts on my iPhone for the same Google Calendar, the alerts sync to my Mac without issues.

Is there a setting in Apple Calendar on my Mac (or, perhaps, in Google Calendar settings) that will make this work?
