Ignore App Updates

Is there a way to permanently delete or ignore app updates in Mavericks? I simply don't use many apps, such as Garage Band, etc. and I don't want to unnecessarily use storage. There must be an easier way than continuously elect "Remind me later, tomorrow," etc. Thanks for any thoughts

That's possible with OS X updates, but it's not possible for apps purchased in the Mac App Store. Always install OS X updates, as they provide more features and increase security.

Note that an application update will replace the old app, so you won't lose space unless the new version is heavier. An exception is the latest iWork and iLife applications, which keep the old version
