iMessage and FaceTime do not work since OS upgrade.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, iMessage and FaceTime do not work. When logging in to either app, they seem to just be hung up with the never ending circle. Please help!

Hi, parksbc.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I would recommend processing a reset of your PRAM. Here are the steps on how to process this reset.

If the issue persists, try the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

Hi,

Several of the "Fixes" used in Mountain Lion for Messages 7.x.x don't apply to issues with Messages 8

(however they are still worth checking).

Try Resetting the Keychain

The issues seems to be either this or the way Mavericks is handling some Certificates in the keychain.

I'd like to add that my iMessages is no longer functional since updating to Mavericks.

I've tried all the remedies I can find on this board [dumping the plists, restarting the machine, reparing the keychain, etc]. None have worked.

Like others have noted, iMessages was working flawlessly in 10.8, but is thoroughly broken for me in 10.9.

It's working fine on both iPad and iPhone. However, I use it a lot on my Mac, so this is a problem for me. Any other solutions out there?

Thanks.

Incidentally, since the update to 10.9, the icon no longer describes it as iMessages, but just 'Messages'. When I open the app, nothing happens. My contacts are not accessible [greyed out], changes are not allowable, 'New message' opens but shows no sidebar and is non-functional.

I even zapped the PRAM, dumped the plists and restarted the machine at one time, but none of those worked either. It has been neutered and no longer works at all.

Help.... Apple!?

HI,

Apple only Host the Boards and provide a small number of Hosts to Moderate them to same extent.

Those Hosts do not answer Questions.

More recently there have been some "Community Specialists" whose job it is is to try and catch unanswered Questions before they get too old.

Back in the Keychain Access App Reset the Keychain instead of Repairing it.

The Document on this does not cover later OS versions

HI,

The article reads:-

Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X

Symptoms

If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain. (Resetting a keychain sets aside the original default keychain file and creates a new one.)

Resolution

To reset your keychain in Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or later:

  1. Open Keychain Access, which is in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.
  2. From the Keychain Access menu, choose Preferences.
  3. Click General, then click Reset My Default Keychain.
  4. Authenticate with your account login password.
  5. Quit Keychain Access.
  6. Restart your computer.

To reset your keychain in Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.3.9:

  1. Open Keychain Access, which is in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.
  2. From the Window menu, choose Keychain First Aid.
  3. Click Options...
  4. Click Reset My Keychain, which is under the General pane.
  5. Authenticate with your account login password.
  6. Quit Keychain Access.
  7. Restart your computer.

I have never had to use it.

The "Setting aside" suggests you still have access to the old one.
