If you don't open any apps, Mail, iTunes, iPhoto, the libraries may not get upgraded. Once they are they will not be compatible with Lion.

Really you should not install Mavericks without making a backup of your original OS, either use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone or Time Machine backup.

Assuming you have now installed Mavericks, give it a fair go. If you want to go back to Lion you will need to do said backups on an external disk first, as you will either need to boot into an external disk and do an erase/install of the computer with the Lion installer and then transfer back you user data.

Alternatively, if you have it available, use Internet Recovery, which will install the computer's original operating system. You'll still need to have saved your user account to an external disk.

i would try disconnecting my computer from the internet then reboot it. Dont hook it back up to the internet though. Look around software update and see if thier is a cancel update or something like this. If it says resume download or continue the that means the software update has stalled and therfore you wont have to update. Hope this helps and if it doesn't then i dont know.

Disconnecting from the Internet wouldn't have helped in the least since the OS had already finished downloading and was installing Mavericks from the hard drive.

You had OS X, 10.7 Lion on the drive, not iOS anything. OS X is the operating system for Mac computers such as the Mac Pro, iMac, Mac Mini and MacBook Pro. iOS is a completely separate OS and is only for mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad.

Since Mavericks is now on the drive, the only way to go back to Lion, which your Mac came with, is to do an Internet Recovery. You WILL lose everything on the drive. Make sure to back up files you cannot afford to lose, first.

Restart and hold down the Command+Option+R keys. Launch Disk Utility and erase the drive. Then install OS X. The version of Lion that came with your Mac will download from Apple's servers and install.

Thank you guys for your replies, it seems I passed all the way to the final installation point without any back-sets thanks to God. Must notice I'm not experiencing any troubleshootings YET at least unlike many who complaints about it. Don't know maybe partway because I'm still new to the most of Macintosh properties and hadn't had a chance to use these services in full measure, didn't lose any document. The only unpleasant surprise was that when trying to launch iPhotos it said that its perfomance is not allowed on "your type of Mac computer", and the only way to obtain it to buy (for 14 pounds), when in Lion I had it already installed in a newly bought device. Hope I won't get any more suprises.

Well, as I said already, I had it pre-installed in my newly bought Mac (before 3 weeks from now) among other Lion components, so after installing Maverick it appeares that I should purchase it. And I don't know myself if this feature is so important for me. But I wonder does the notification of my type of Mac being disallowed to use this app mean that I'm being reduced to the thought that my device is an obsolete piece of junk? 😟
