garageband '11 v logic pro x

how much of a difference is there between garageband '11 and logic pro x in end product sound quality? And garageband is very simple and easy to use, how difficult is it to learn logic pro x with no previous logic pro experience?

Sound quality relies on your sound card or interface. It will be the same quality in both apps.

Logic Pro has a steep learning curve. Its steepness really relies on your experience as an engineer. I chose the term engineer purposely.

The more experience you have of engineering the less steep the curve but the manual is a friend to everyone, beginer and experienced user alike. Make no mistake though, Logic is a beast compared to Garageband and a lot of work and effort needs to be put in if you are going to reap the rewards. As with everything else in life.

As Octopi states, the actual quality of the audio you hear is largely dependent on your audio interface.

(Octopi, have you read Ken Scott's book, "Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust"?)

As far as sound difference between Logic and Garageband 11, with nothing added (plugins...etc) audio recording is identical in both programs. What logic has is a greater selection of virtual instruments, pro quality plugins and advanced editing features. Yes, there is a learning curve, effort is required.

Of course, 95% in the difference in sound between the two programs will be the person behind the wheel.

I started a project in Garagreband (just for the heck of it) a couple of years ago and ended up finishing it there, the company I did the music for loved it, it's still played on local television and radio.

Cool, I mean I have been making music for years now and have been working on songs dilligently. I guess I am just gonna to have to purchase and see for myself. My honest feeling is that garageband doesn't sound as good or have the ability to sound as good as logic pro. The customizing could take mix to the next step. Even still what your saying is if both mixes are mixed well and done exactly the same way, garageband and logic pro x stems/ song would come out sounding exactly the same? Interesting

This is essentially correct, Garageband uses the same audio engine as Logic.

If you recorded and mixed the same exact way and used the same plugins set the same way, your stems/songs would for the most part, sound the same. There may be slight differences because Logc may have a few settings Garageband doesn't.. .like "Pan Law".

What audio Interface are you using?

right now I have just the basic set up of garageband, no real plug ins. I am really looking for something very simple that sounds very good. Right now I make something finished like the beat in gb and then if I like it then I take it to the studio and then we can add things and mix with pro tools. I guess if you think with the extra features of logic pro x I can make something that will sound way better before I bring it to finally be mixed in pro tools than I will definitely consider it.

Well, honestly..... I would not call Logic simple.. but on the other hand you're comfortable with GB and really, Logic isn't that much more difficult. At one time before Apple owned the company that originally designed/programmed Logic it sold for $999, after Apple bout the company the price was reduced to $499. When it moved to the App store the price was reduced to $199.

I think Logic is incredibly cheap, if a Garageband user is interested in "more' Logic can be a great teacher.
