Safe from what? Why would trading in an old phone be unsafe?

Would someone be able to access/retrieve the info on the phone after it's been (wiped clean) ? Is it really a blank slate after? Sorry to sound so paranoid, just want to make sure.
It's a blank slate. Erasing an SSD isn't like erasing a disk. It does not leave a magnetic ghost.

I've sold several iPhones. I followed the procedure outlined in the article wjosten shared above. I've never had a problem. There is no reason to be worried.
