Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

Just my history from the last 4 weeks:
I went through 2 iPad Airs. Both had the yellow tint on the lefthand side. Went to the Apple Store Sindelfingen to see those devices for the public. It seems that most of them are effected by this issue.
After that experience I ordered the new iPad mini with retina Display. Thought this will have a better display. Same issue, just on the bottom of the screen (near Homebutton). Gott a replacement yesterday. Same issue. Yellow tint on the bottom AND blue hue on top of the screen. Very distracting.
I stop now playing this game and spent my money for something better. Really dissappointed by the quality of this years iPad (had all 4 generations).
By the Way: This grey scale picture was very helpful to test my device(s). All colors on the lower left should identically look like on the top right.
Took a chance and got lucky at Target today with an iPad Air 32GB WiFi only Space Gray/Grey with serial number DMPLP - I used the images below to test the screen in a dark room and I can honestly say I cannot see any yellow, spine effect, blotches, dead pixels, dust, etc. The funny thing is my new iPad came with a bunch of scratches on the back aluminum and the back was also dirty with some kind of adhesive on it - but since the screen is good I am keeping it and putting it in a case and counting my blessings. Apple, you make good products but you seriously have a quality control issue with your suppliers!
I'm really not sure what to do with any of my three apple devices at this point, in fear of getting something that's worse. I'm going to stray slightly off of ipads just to get some of your opinions. First off, ipad:
This is my first replacement, and it seems to have virtually no yellow tint on the left side issues, despite having an overall brighter right side. It does however, have some minor backlight bleeding issues, noticeably only when watching netflix with the black bars on top and bottom. Here's my ipad:
You can see that in the lower left there is some bleeding, but it's not that severe, and I'm nervous about trying for another replacement after all of the stories here.
I also recently had the display clamshell replaced on my retina macbook pro 15" because it had a shotty LG screen with bright spots all over it. It was replaced with a samsung, but I noticed recently it bleeds in the two lower corners:
Again, only noticeable really when watching movies or looking at pictures in fullscreen. Do you think it's worth getting it fixed again and risking getting an LG screen again? (Ignore the pinkish hue in the upper part of the display, that isn't visible to the naked eye, it's a weird camera thing, took it with my iphone)
And now for my iphone, which I believe I'm on my seventh or eighth 5S because of various screen problems, most of them exhibiting yellow bars in the top region. This iphone appears to have a scratch/microfracture UNDERNEATH the glass. I thought I caused it somehow, but when I ran my finger over it, it's smooth. It's on the underside of the display. But replacing it AGAIN I have the fear of getting one that's worse.
If you look to the left side of the display (top of photo) on the bottom (home button) edge you can see the nick/scratch whatever it is. It's right in the corner. It's not covering any pixels, as it's just outside of the field of the LCD, but it's noticeable every time I look at the bottom half of the screen.
Thoughts? I'm really on the fence about trying to get more replacements, also in fear of having apple start telling me I've capped out and I just have to deal, despite having purchased AppleCare on all three devices.
Here is the picture of the two Airs 16Gb White A1417. The difference in colors is more noticeble in person but still you can see from the picture that one has yellowish color. On the good one the gray color is very sharp and prominent. While the one with the yellowish tint, grey color is more extinct, washed out.
Fourth replacement, display reasonably well, but large light leaks.
I have Apple Care and I was trying to fix this question since November 9.
Now, I waiting since 48 hours ago for the Apple call to see what we can do ....

I just thought I would add to this thread.
I bought the iPad air last week in Montreal, Quebec. After using it for 10 minutes I noticed that the left side of the screen up until 3/4 across was darker than the right side (with a mix of a yellow tinge). It was very apparent when reading white research articles (which is why I bought the Air). I've attached a picture for those who doubt this problem and/or think people are being too picky.
I exchanged the air for another one the next day with no problems. I thought the next one would be fine. However, it had almost the same screen uniformity problem as the 1st one. 70% of the left side of the screen was dark and had a yellow tinge to it while 30% of the screen on the right side has a nice pure white colour (except at the bottom right it was pink). I've attached a picture of the replacement Air for those who doubt this problem and/or think people are being too picky.
It is unfortunate that this happened. After one iPad Air exchange, I’m getting a refund and moving on to something else. I suggest those that are facing similar screen problems to give it one more shot with an exchange and if the problem is still there, then stop and just get a refund. This is not worth obsessing about.
That is not my issue too seriously
These spots are seen with great care
I already had this problem more or less a mini iPad
The first day was like this
And not blow it!
The seller of the Apple iPad screens all have problems
Trouble spots of yellow - gray - Burnt Pixel
And may be resolved in future
But I refused
this is my screen but on camera cant see my problem 😟
For anyone interested, I was able to take a couple of photos which really demonstrate the yellow hue issue. This is with my latest Mini Retina received Dec 24th via an online store order. The second photo has the iPad rotated 180 degrees. Admittedly this is worse than most of the previous Airs I've had, but with only one exception (which I returned because the bookspine issue) all of the others still had this distracting yellow gradient.
Hello everybody and happy new year,
I've got a MiniRetina 32G Wifi Space Grey (production week : 49 - Factory F4) and hope that I may give my feelings on this Air thread.
I've noticed that my iPad screen is warmer than my iPhone 4s (it's a normal thing if I remember the tests).
I know that I have some yellow tint, some bleeding but no screen retention nor dead pixels.
About the bleeding, the unforgivable test is this one given some pages above :
http://www.ipadmalaysialabs.com/ipad-backlight-bleeding-dead-pixels-test/
I must admit that without doing this test I wasn't aware of this issue and would have never noticed it.
In an everyday use, I'm not finding the bleedings in my screen as a bother.
I know that the only noticeable thing is the light difference between left screen bottom and right screen bottom which is seen sometimes according to viewing angle. The surprising fact is that sometimes I notice it and sometimes I'm just not able to see it...
The interesting fact is I've run all those screen tests on my iPhone 4s and as far as I've never noticed anything wrong with it since all the time I'm using it, some bleeding and tints were seen.
I also confess that I can't see a pure white screen without seeing some yellow or green tints now, lol...
Here's a picture in order to have your opinion (Screen is @ 50% of light..).
And the same with flash (it changes drastically the general tint) :
What do you think ?
This is the best photo I could get of my Air taken in a dark room using my iPhone. It looks much better in person, though when looking at it with the split keyboard the bottom left side is very slightly dingy. This is not noticeable in everyday use unless really looking for it on a white background. I returned 3 Airs with yellow screens and I'm very happy with this one. It is bright and white with no yellow (even thought it appears to be yellow in parts of the photo). The serial number is DMPLD and it is Week 37 purchased shortly after launch. I would try again if I were you. I was unwilling to settle for a yellow screen as I had been using an iPad 4 with a perfect white screen and I would have kept that before switching to an Air with a yellow screen.
Thanks for the encouragement to try again bentley 🙂 I've received many Airs/Mini Retinas over the past months and the majority of the units I've seen on display in Apple Stores have the same problems. That's why I'm thinking I might not get any better than this!
I've included a photo of my latest one (DLXM4 - week 4, 2014) which does a pretty good job of showing what it looks like in person. I am going to return it. The yellow colour shift toward the right (the home button is on top) is distracting in an app like this, or in Pages, PDF Expert, etc. This Air also does have the bookspine effect, but it's not too bad and you can't really see it in the photo.
Just thought I'd put up a photo demonstrating the difference between my last Air (DLXM4) and the Air I've kept (DMPLT). I reused the photo I posted above for easy comparison here. It's not a perfect photo but it does show what you see in person - a yellow gradient on one iPad Air and a more uniform screen on the other (the Home button is on top in both photos).
Went to the AT&T store to exchange the iPad, and took a photo comparing mine with the store display.
The salesman and manager both said they look identical and couldn't see any difference between them. You decide:
After basically being called a liar for saying the one they sold me looks different, the manager then tells me if I feel like there is something wrong with the iPad I should drive the 100 miles to the nearest Apple Store and take it up with them.
Otherwise, I would have to pay a $100 "restocking fee" to return or exchange it even though this has nothing to do with being my fault.
I will never buy another Apple product. Ever.
