Superdrive and Eject key are not working after Mavericks update!

Hi,

I updated Mavericks from Mountain Lion on my MBP (late 2008). Now, superdrive and eject key are not working. Superdrive is not responsive when I insert the DVD in.

Eject key works with the combination of Control, Option and Command keys to restart and shutdown the system. But it is not working when it is pressed alone to eject the DVD.

I read some people had same problem when they updated to Mountain Lion. I did some of the common troubleshootings like PRAM, SMC, deleting Finder preference and safe boot. But superdrive is still not working. Please give me some suggestions to make it work.

Thanks in advance 🙂

I have the exact same problem. It started with my 2011 iMac. First I thought that it got old and the superdrive just stopped working, but this was right after the latest osx uprage. Today I have found out that it's not working on my 13 month old MacBook Pro. This can't be a coincidence. Hope we will find a result soon.

I had the same problem after installing Mavericks on a late 2008 MBP.

I tried reseting NVRAPM/PRAM and SMC but that did not work.

Then I ran some drutil commands and eventually got the superdrive to wake up.

I'm not sure which command did the trick so please try running these commands from terminal in the following order.

drutil status

drutil info

drutil getconfig

drutil eject

Now try inserting a DVD. If that doesn't work please try the above sequence with a DVD partially inserted in the drive. I dont think that matters, but I did have a CD partially inserted when I fixed my superdrive.

It works! Thank you so much! I will have to try it on my MacBook as well and I'll let you know asap.

Thanks again! 🙂

Soooo, the good news is that the iMac has recognized the CD, the bad news is that there is no way I can eject it at this point. The terminal commands aren't working either.
