why do i have to unregister my product to get messages on android

why do I have to unregister my products from apple so people can send me messages from thier phones to my new Android.

I still want my ipad and laptop to be registered, I just dont want iphone people to message me on them. And just shuting imessage off or deleteing it is not working.
