OS X Mavericks download not working

Ok so this is probably my 5th time trying at this download. I have a macbook air and I have looked up ways to make the download work. I've tried re installing the app and rebooting my laptop. Everytime I install the app the bar does not move. It stays the same. I have run out of options on what to do. Any help?

Thanks - so it has not even downloaded yet?

There may be no apparent "progress bar" in the App Store. It may be a bug associated with this particular download. The downloaded file is very large and could take several hours if your Internet speed is not very fast.

To determine if it is actually downloading you can use Launchpad if you already are using Lion or later. You should see a fairly obvious new icon with an associated progress bar. Make sure you check every Launchpad page by swiping left / right.

If it's paused, click the icon to restart it.

Once it completes the icon will appear in Applications and Launchpad, it's just easier to find in Launchpad.

When it's finished downloading it looks like this:

If it really is not downloading read Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads

  1. Open the Mac App Store.
  2. From the Store menu, choose Sign In.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  4. Click Purchases to get to your Purchases Page.
  5. Click the Resume button next to the app name.

If you followed all these steps and are still convinced it is not downloading, write back.

Mine is having the same issue. It's getting stuck after 995MB every time, and then just saying 'calculating'. I've tried restarting the download and my macbook. Resume isn't an option as its not registering as an interupted download, its just stuck. My internet connection is good. Nothing will get it past this point! Very frustrating. Anyone had any luck?

Try the following:

Sign out of the App Store, then quit the App Store.

Select (triple-click to select the entire line), then control-click, and from the contextual menu that appears select Services > Reveal in Finder:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist

Drag the highlighted file to the Desktop.

Repeat with the following two lines

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent

Open the App Store again, select the Purchases list, sign in, and attempt to download Mavericks again.

Start your Mac in "Safe Mode" and determine if you can download Mavericks in that mode:

  • Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
  • Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
  • Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
  • To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

The fact that it is not downloading after accomplishing all the above is a concern. If you're using any third party "anti-virus" or "security" or "cleaning" software, don't. Remove such things before attempting to upgrade to Mavericks.

Create a temporary User account for the sole purpose of downloading and installing Mavericks. See this video, or this article for instructions for OS X Lion. See this article for instructions for OS X Mountain Lion.

Make sure to check the box for "Allow user to administer this computer".

Log out of your normal account, log in to the temporary account, and attempt to download Mavericks again while using that account. You will be using the same Apple ID as you have been using.

You can always delete the account later.
