Mavericks, internet icon lost, how to make it reappear? how to retrieve it?

Where is this Internet icon supposed to be? The WiFi strength indicator? The Network pane in System Preferences?

- included a jing.
- I had something like a crash, and a screen appeared and asked me if I want to report the incident to Apple
- after rebooting, this icon has disappeared.

That looks like your wifi icon:
? If so, go to System Preferences>Network> select the Wi-Fi settings and click on the "Show Wi-Fi status in menu bar" checkbox:
That should take care of it...

- I Kept the Wifi off and the wifi icon is always dimmed
- The icon in question is the internet one

That's how it's 'supposed' to work - if Wi-Fi is off or no networks can be found, then the icon will be dimmed.
