Hey, everyone. THIS REALLY UPSETS ME!

Because now we have to do the long method. (Glad this at least works)

Say I have a keynote document open with a white slide and the next slide I want to be is the black slide from the theme chooser. Rather than

Setup > Presentation > Change Theme

which ANNOYINGLY changes the themes for all slides, instead go

File > New > (Pick the theme you want) > Copy the slide > Paste into your document > Delete the New Document that you just wanted the slide color or theme from. DONE

When you paste in the slide you want, just make sure you don't change the Theme of the presentation, or all slides will become that theme...........................

Actually the ability to change one slide is still in Keynote 6.0; however, finding it is a challange and I found it quite by accident! I cannot wait until they restore the customizable tool bar as promised!!!!!

I made myself a little guide because I was not sure if I would remember how to do it again. I attached it for your convenience.

Begin in the upper far right corner of the tool bar

1. Click Setup gear icon

2. A new tool window opens and then click on the Format paint brush icon

3. A new tool window opens for changing the slide background. Click the "Background" menu arrow if "Color Fill" does not appear.

4. Click on either the Color Wheel icon or for more choices or the "Color Fill" menu arrow for all the options for gradient, image, etc...

Sorry that the image below is remedial with my memory I need it! Giggles!

@p717: That's a pretty straight forward hack IF you are using plain and ordinary themes. You could always do the same by creating a Shape, giving it the colour of your desired theme, (or fill it with a desired picture - perhaps a screenshot of your desired background) then paste it in - sending it to the background with no builds of course.

Otherwise, @Richarduke's is the way I first discovered how to get around this impediment. Really - who uses the same them all the way through a deck, except people under the thumb of their marketing department ;-0

That is a good suggestion, Les, because prior to finding the slide appearace tool window I was using screen shots to creat backgrounds and making them opaque as needed. So using shapes is another really creative "work around".

However, I tried to show that there are more ways to change a single slide's appearance ( background). "Color Fill" is only one option. There "Gradient Fill" "Advanced Gradiant Fill" "Image Fill" and "Advanced Image Fill"

I use "Image Fill" (you can pretty much pick any image you have on your computer for image fill). I use it pretty often and reduce the opacity so my slide content is more dominate then the background.

There are two "Advanced" options in 6.0 and may have some new features to experiement with or perhaps it is just a change of terms!

I have not had a chance to experiment and see what may or may not be a new feature since I just found this tool window recently.

What ever feature or work-around works best for an individual will have it's pros and cons...it is personal preference ... I like the built in features and will play around more with the "Shapes" in the furture as I only use them on a limited basis now.

Peggy

@Peggy The ADVANCED Image fill now includes a system of tiling the same image over and over again , from just 4 pics per background, to scores of tiny images, to which you can then apply a varety of gradients. Looks like someone's project on the Keynote team, which management said, "yep, that's a goer - let's see how it flies with the end users". That used to be, "Let's hope Steve likes it" but there mght now be more flexibility in adding features. It's to be hoped after all the hooha about ommitted features in this rebuild of Keynote, that when those features are added eventually, other new features (please - a timeline!) will also be added.

Hi HFTVFTV,

Sure!

You can change any single slide style ortheme.

I am not 100% clear on what you would like to do.

I often copy a slide from one theme and paste it into a presentation because it fits the subject of that one slide.

You can copy the whole slide and paste into another presentation as well as just copying the contents of a slide.

Keynote allows for a lot of creativity. You can use any style slide to be your "title" slide. You can move slides around within a presentation.

I am not sure if this answers your question.
