mavericks loses 2560x1440 resolution on Dell U2711

Hi all,

seems i'm set to go throught the same story again. All worked perfectly fine on a late 2010 mini with a special mini dvi to hdmi cable.

The upgrade to Mavericks has reduced the max resolution. The good news is I can now almost take my glasses off to read text.

But seriously, 1920x1080 is the best I can get when testing software like switch resX or display menu. I also tried a script found along the thread here:

Dell U2713H on Mac: forcing RGB mode instead of YCbCr - EmbDev.net

Any help, tips or tricks will be most appreciated.

Best regards from la france. ;-)

The post by Thomas Solved my issues on Samsung 2K monitor as well. Yes 2650x1440 works now! Thanks Thomas!

I have MacbookPro, Mid 2010. Trying to use a Samsung external monitor at 2650x1440, but could only 1080p resolution. I ran the ruby script, (whit laptop lid closed and connected to external monitor). The instructions are a bit different for Seirra - but just scroll down in the EDID post from Thomas and you'll see Sierra instructions.

Here is the hardware involved

Good luck in your external monitor endeavors.

Hi davecomm,

your suggestion has put me on track. Having only one displayport , I started unplugging/replugging with monitor either on or off, each time trying to see if the correct resolution reappeared with the ALT/detect solution.

And guess what, my 2560x1440 resultion reappeared and worked. Will see tomorrow if it still holds after a reboot... Thanks for your ideas and support! Much appreciated.

Yeah, this worked on my MacBook Pro Retina also. It was defaulting to 1280x1024 on display port lead, where it had worked on 1920x1080 over HDMI. Unplugging it and pluggin it back in to the same port didn't help. Plugged it in the other mini display port, and it immediately switched to 2560x1440. Then, plugged it back in the original port and now that one worked at the native resolution also. Weird. Thanks!

Hi Andrea,

sorry to bother again with this, i arrive late, but I have a rMBP late 2013 with the DELL U2711HM and i have competely lost my resolution, impossible to go back to the 2560x1440 that i had for a while on only one of the two TB... Very weird.

I tried everything that was porposed in this feed, none of those worked, any idea?

Do we have to wait and hope that Apple will provide an update to fix this?

Thanks in advance for your help, anyone, I'm really upset not being able to use the full res of my screen!!

Thanks,

Julien

The problem happend to me again today, after launching Starcraft II on my MacBook Pro Retina 15".

To be very clear on how I solved it again.

1. Download this file : U2713H_U2713HM_Mac_EDID_override.zip

2. Unzip it

3. Copy the folder named "DisplayVendorID-10ac" into "/System/Library/Displays/Overrides"

4. Reboot

5. You should see the option 2560*1440 into Preferences > Monitor > Scale (or something like that, my Mac speaks french).

6. Select the option, enjoy your life and bookmark this page for next time ;-)

7. Use the new resolution to send an email or a tweet to tim.cook@apple.com to ask him to get back to work.

Hi Thomas

sorry but even after trying three times, it still doesn't make it for me. I only have 1920x1080.

In monitor preferences, in scale I only have either 1080p or 720p. No other resolution are proposed.

I even have a little app called Display Menu and it doens't help either.

I have to admit it's pretty **** annoying knowing that i bought this monitor because of it's resolution and since I have this MacBookPro 15" Retina, it doesn't work anymore!!

Thanks for your help anyway.
