I've planned to download OSX Mavericks, but I've read some people's reviews and it says that Mavericks doesn't support iPhoto '11 (9.2.3) and I don't see any update for it on my computer... Isn't iPhoto usually a free thing to update? I don't understand.
I really want Mavericks so what should I do with the whole iPhoto situation?

iPhoto 9.2.3 is not compatible with OS X Mavericks. However, after upgrading to OS X Mavericks, you will be prompted to update to iPhoto 9.5, which is compatible with OS X Mavericks and it's free in your case. (You can't see iPhoto 9.5 as an update because it's only compatible with OS X Mavericks).
iPhoto 9.4.x also works with OS X Mavericks, but the Mac App Store prompts you to install the latest iPhoto version

Okay, so the only reason it says iPhoto 9.5 is $14.99 is because I'm not on Mavericks yet? Once I get Mavericks, it will direct me to download 9.5 for free? I've been reading and some people say to try and get 9.4.3. So should I just go ahead and get Mavericks or get the 9.4.3 first?
Correct. After upgrading to OS X Mavericks, you will be prompted to download iPhoto 9.5 for free. You will be asked for your Apple ID and iPhoto will appear as purchased with your Apple ID even if you got it for free.
Another option would be to use iPhoto 9.4.3, but it's not needed > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1650
I try this option but still does not works. Any idea what is happening?
My install of Mavericks did NOT prompt me to download 9.5 and I am in an endless loop of the App Store, upgrade and it not installing.

I installed Mavericks on an empty partition to try it out — not ready yet to give up my existing OS X 10.8 environment. No prompt to install iPhoto 9.5, and the App Store only lists the paid v9.5.1. I'll try v9.4.3 for now.
