Genieo Virus

I got the Genieo Virus thingy. I used the uninstaller app like many forums said to unistall it. The I used AppCleaner to get rid search for any other files associated with the Genieo App and deleted those. I restarted my computer and it still seems to be affecting my Internet browsers. In Firefox I did the about:config and the keyword:URL and deleted to info there and resetting my homepage preferences. But the Genieo thing is still there. How can I get rid of this for good?

AppCleaner, and other similar apps, cannot be relied on to delete everything, despite that being their selling feature.

Genieo is sneaky, its uninstaller does not remove everything, and although it asks if you want it to reset your browser's home page and search engine, it doesn't actually do so. See:

Malicious Genieo installers persist

The problem is, Genieo keeps changing, so I can't be sure that the removal instructions there are still accurate. But give that a try, and if it still won't go away, post back here for more advice.

The uninstaller leaves things behind. Things that continue running in the background, doing who knows what. One of them is deceptively named "Application."

To remove it, you really need to do more than run the uninstaller. I've got a newly-finished guide to removing it here:

Just for all the nex texters, btw+by the way, lol.I went through genieo and this is how u get rid of it. First, if you just got it then just quit the app and it leaves. If you have had it for more then an hour then do as i say.

First off put all the genieo effected files into a USB drive. Make sure that you have all of them. Then delete all your dowloads sinse the day you got genieo, (its easier to delete all). Then run the uninstaller if there is still something there. If the uninstaller is there then look through your files again. Then here comes the fun part, and by the way this is no joke. Smash the USB with a hammer or something you like to use to smash things with. That all you got to do 🙂. It works, trust me.

🙂 😁

Hope this helped.
