based only on your first panic report, I would guess that you had a graphics Hardware problem. But when the second report is added, it creates a non-Trend.

You are unlikely to get to the bottom of this yourself. Make an appointment at your Apple store genius bar for an evaluation. If strictly less than 14 days since you took delivery, you have the option to ask for a new computer, and I suggest you do that.

Thanks for the tip. I did a memtest all 2 which took 2 hours and then a memtest all which took an hour and there were no errors. How can I test the video ram and other components? Any recommendations?

I also tried this on my MBP and there were no reported errors. Does this mean its a SW issue?

ok another one. This one whilst scrolling through a website on safari whilst VLC was playing a movie minimised. Anythign different on this report?

Exhaustive memory testing takes overnight to a week. False negatives are extremely common.

Before you lose your 14-day return window, return that new Mac to Apple for a replacement, or you own it.

The 14day window passed a few weeks ago. However I do have applecare so might book a genius appointment.

This evening I reinstalled OSX which put me back to 10.9.4. I tested the machine running similar apps to that at the time of the previous kernel panics without any issues. I then upgraded OSX to 10.9.5 and Safari 7.1. Also stress tested again and pushed things a bit harder by running multiple videos at once, opening lots of different tabbed pages in Safari etc. No kernel panics so I'm hoping reinstalling OSX fixed it.

Did you by any chance leave your computer's battery to drain completely many times? I did that, and I read in another thread that doing that might corrupt some data and apps on the ssd. I'm thinking maybe something like that might have happened to vlc...

I also had similar case of kernel panics with my MBP retina 15 late 2013. Both panics happened when I watched a video using VLC 2.1.5 where the file is located on an external drive.

I was quick jumped to several scenes in the video using the track bar when the panics happened. It never happened with any other applications.

I'm using mavericks 10.9.4 with the automatic graphics switching option turned on. I just switched it off after this latest panic to see whether this is the problem.

I hope this is a software/driver problem and not a hardware issue...

Just a curiosity:

Is your computer new or do you have it since last year and it's acting up only now?

It's new. I only have it for two weeks now. This happened only with VLC. I used other heavy graphics sw such as photoshop CC and had no problem at all.

i have only had the battery completely drain once. I dint think anything of it at the time. I did have a couple of Kernel Panics occur before this.

Whenever I go full screen in vlc and back to window mode, it moves the video to and from a new Space. It also does one of those full screen black flashes when switching these modes. Do you guys use it in the same way? It's annoying and if this problem is only correlated with vlc, this might be one of the causes. I went to VLC > Preferences and unchecked Use native fullscreen mode. Now it seems to run much smoother.

I also did a fresh reinstall of the OS and am testing it. If the kernel panics still happen, I'll take it back into service.
