On downloading Mavericks, my Epson VR330 Photo scanner stopped working. Error message was sent but no response.

Not a solution, but as a workaround, have you tried Image Capture in the Applications folder? Maybe that'll work.
It seems that some new drivers are urgently needed from Epson. A friend of mine was having the same problem yesterday with another Epson multi-function. Image Capture re-established scanning capability.

Thanks. Its helped me to carry on wsith my work, but it's not as convenient as the Epson driver.
