Open dialogue boxes no longer allow sort by date in list view

I do a lot of work in Illustrator and Photoshop and when I go to open files I view the open dialogue in list view and usually sort by date modified to access the most recently worked on files. This is no longer an option since upgrading to Maverics (this happens in all apps, not just Adobe apps). What gives? This is a MAJOR inconvenience when I have to scroll through hundreds or thousands of files.
