Q: Mavericks - worst OS update in memory?

Since I've installed Mavericks I have the following problems:

1) 2 external HDs have been corrupted and have lost data (fortunately only backups). I did an SMC reset which I thought had fixed the problem but it has now returned even after re-formatting both drives

2) Zipcloud takes forever to backup (a 6 day incremental backup since Mavericks installation) - Zipcloud support don't seem to be able to figure out the problem

3) My MBP has now completely frozen 4 times in 3 days and required a hard restart, which has resulted in data loss

4) Disk Utility reports that the disk needs to be repaired in Recovery HD mode - I do this and it appears to have no effect (Mac still crashes and DU still reports that there are problems which need to be fixed in Recovery HD mode)

5) The strange slight screeching noise that Apple were unable to diagnose a few months back has now got much worse. The fix for this is to adjust the brightness of the display either up or down but since the Mavericks update this is now happening more regularly.

I am using a 7 month old MBPr, 768GB SSD, 16GB RAM - a computer that cost almost £3000 - which has more or less turned into a piece of junk since I installed Mavericks.

If anyone from Apple is reading this, then you need to pull your finger out and fix your QA problem. I am furious.

I've done most of those apart from a totally new install.

The external HD problem also exists on my wife's Macbook Air, (and if the length of the threads on this discussion  forum are an indicator then it is not an uncommon problem)

Well, I've fixed one of the problems. Zipcloud support told me that their application does not work very well with App Nap, so I had to permanently disable that specifically for the Zipcloud app.

I still have the following problems:

    1) External HD's have been reformatted and time machine seems to work, but it can take a long while for the HD's to mount properly and for Time Machine to start (sometimes hours)

    2) MBP still freeezing - no idea why, I don't have a lot of system extensions or junk software. I use Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro and there don't appear to be any issues reported with the latest version and Mavericks on the NI forums.

    3) Disk Utility is still reporting every time I run it that the disk needs to be repaired in Recovery HD mode but when I do this DU still subsequently reports the same thing

I reinstalled Mavericks and ran the Apple Hardware Test but no joy...here's the results of my Etrecheck scan if anyone would be kind enough to cast their eye over them:
