What I'd like to say about ARD 3.7 can't be written in this forum. I run a very small company, however we use 45 Macs. I use ARD to connect, control, etc. all of them. Version 3.7 has completely shut me down.
Example: In the same room running two different iMacs with ARD 3.7 (with FIREWALL OFF) it takes forever for the screen to load on the mac I want to view/control. The only thing connecting them is a Netgear Gigabit Switch.
The ARD software team should be emarrased - don't they test it before releasing it. FYI - all of the computers we have are running Mavericks, they are all late model iMacs and Mac Pro's and they all have a minimum of 8GB of memory.
Please fix this software.
I have 9 machines, all running mavericks (10.9) and just dated to ARD 3.7 also.
Since the update, I am effectively shut down. I am able to connect and control, but the framerate is like 0.5 frames per second. minimizing windows consist of 2-3 frames max. My cursor is so lagged, I can't control it easily and it takes forever for me to train it on the exact item i'm trying to click.
Please apple, Fix ARD. I think more of us rely on it for TONS of critical applications more than you know.
I have described on another discussion (ARD 3.7 crashing) throwing out the old ARD database and rebuilding from scratch. That has helped me immensely. Up until today it has been working better than ever. However, today I look in a group and I will see that one Mac has been substituted for another. So there is more than corruption of an older database going on.
Same here, clients keep showing, leaving my admin remote desktop or flashing so fast i cant click on them, I wish i did not update, anyone how to reset the plist? to see if it helps? im worry to revert to the previous version or any1 has done sucesfully?
I run 10.8.5 on admin console and all clients 10.8.4, 10.8.5
I tested on a Mavericks admin one, same problem
I remotely connect to my Mac's VNC server. These are the steps I used... They worked briefly but are no longer working unless I folow step 5 and disable my firewall altogether!
- System Preferences -> Sharing -> Disable all Remote Management, Screen Sharing, "Anyone may request permission to control screen", and "VNC viewers may control screen" options in System Preferences
- System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Turn Firewall On. Next, remove screensharingd under Firewall Options by using the button.
- Restart your computer
- Enable Remote Desktop over VNC using the steps above: This will trigger the OS to ask you if you want to add a firewall exception for screen sharing, which will allow you to connect via VNC.
- NOTE: Sometimes these steps won't permanently work and you'll need to disable the firewall altogether.
Again, I must turn off my firewall to connect to it's VNC, otherwise I get a timeout, even after setting "Screen Sharing" to allow incoming connections.
ANOTHER UNRESOLVED PROBLEM: I have a problem where the last frame takes 2 seconds before being sent, even though most of the frames before it are sent through quickly. For example, if I'm typing in a terminal and enter the command cd .. [return], then "cd .." shows up fast, but after pressing return, it takes 2 seconds before it refreshes the view and shows me the result of the command.
Neither of these problems happened with ARD < 3.7.0 . Anyone know how to revert back to the old version? It was much more responsive! This new version is unusable!
Hello, I'm running Mavericks with the ARD 3.7 update and have the same issues. A temporary solution is to quit ARD and empty the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.
After that you have to add all computers again, but it works for at least some days.
Note, that your previous computerlists will also be deleted..
After searching the forums for an answer, I dug in and turned up an answer that worked in my network (ML Server, ~60 end users):
In the System Preferences, open Sharing
At Computer Name, click Edit
Check the box Use Dynamic Global Hostname
Set the Hostname to <name>.mydomain.com (my domain is, of course, changed to your domain)
Set the User and Password
Check Advertise Services in this Domain using Bonjour
