Macbook Pro Late 2013 battery drained when in sleep mode

I just got the late 2013 retina MBP.

After having the computer in sleep mode overnight while on battery, it drains about 20%.

That seems wrong, should only consume 1-3%, right?

PowerNap and "Wake for network access" are disabled. Running Mavericks.

Anyone else have similar issues?

Add me to the list of users with this problem. I thought this was normal until the first time the computer drained to 0% while I was away at work. Any other day, the Mac has been 99%.

At times I've seen the Apple Logo light up while the comptuer was closed/sleep.Today the computer was very warm and down to 75%. Time Machine has been off since day one, with only manual back-ups triggered as needed. In the console I see a number of attempts to establish a connection with my Time Capsule, although I highly doubt this along will cause such a battery drain.

I have an appoint at the Genius Bar over the weekend and I hope to get to the bottom of this soon.

Xumeiquer: I uninstalled Avast 5 minutes after I wrote that post, and then left the laptop with the lid closed. I just checked, and so far 1% battery loss. Now, that's only a little over 1.5 hour, so it's too soon to declare victory. But comparing it to last night: - The battery was 100% percent when I left the office - I didn't open the laptop until this afternoon (±27 hours later) - It had 35% battery left So it had lost 65% in 27 hours. That is 2.4% per hour. In the 1.5 hours since my post it should/could have gone down 3.6%, but it went down only 1%, and that might just be a rounding thing!

Same issue here. Within 24 hours a battery of my Later 2013 MB Pro had still 21% left. It was on 0% when I opened it again. I did a hardware test. No issues. Maybe it's the USB soundcard (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) which is plugged in when sleeping? It's not working when the MB Pro is asleep. Would be weird to unplug everything, the MacBook Pro should switch off USB. So I guess that's not the issue.

But what is causing it? For a super expensive laptop the MacBook Pro has a lot of issues I should say.

During two days the laptop was working well even with spleeping mode. Then I put the laptop into sleeping mode with 20% of battery and I woke it up later, the battery was completly empty, so I pluged the charger overnight and morning after the laptop was completly charged, obiusly. Then another issue shows up, and I say show up because it is the second time I got the same issue after the same situation, which is after charging the laptop overnight when it was completly uncharged, and the issue is that the laptop takes a while until it starts up, I mean, I have to press several times the power on/off button and finally it starts up. I don't like that behaivour at all.

Does someone have the same problem after charging the laptop overnight?

I installed avast yesterday, then i left my MacBook on sleep from about, midnight this morning, until about 4:15 this afternoon, it was NOT plugged in. When I got home from work I noticed it was really hot and when I opened it, I had about 4% charge left. Had'nt had this problem before Avast, but this is my first MacBook, and I've only had it about a week. After reading some of the comments on here I'm going to try and uninstall Avast and see if the problem persists or not. Will reply with what I find out

My Genius Bar visit did not yeild anything. They suggested that i reset the p-ram and see how things go from there... although I'm not expecting anything to change from doing so.

What's odd, this started well after purchasing the system. I recall seeing the display come on randomly here and there but the power drain is new. Hopefully one of us will get to the bottom of this. I have a 2012 rMBP for work and that system is fine. A few of my firends purchased the laste 2013 rMPB after my purchase and their systems are fine so far. I fear there may be something with the early batches.

Powernap will remain off on my system until this is resolved.

Avast is a bad choice for several reasons, including damage to the OS. You need to ask yourself why you need any anti-malware software as most users running fully up-to-date OS X and apps should not need anything. Read through Mac Malware Guide : Do I need anti-virus software? and any of the other information on that site that's of interest.

Thanks, I was pretty sure I wouldn't need anything, but I was just looking to make it a little safer, I figured, better safe than sorry right? I ended up making the decision to go with Avast after reading a professional review of several different AVs for Mac, which concluded that Avast was the best choice, and then customer reviews, none of which mentioned having any problems. After this little debacle I think I will just stick with nothing or maybe something from that page. Also anyone reading this definitely do not download Avast.

I've found that most of these "professional reviews" accept money from the vendors, to test or to advertise their product or both. "Customer" reviews are often easily provided by someone paid or bribed to provide positive words.

I encourage you to watch TheSafeMac site for the results of his latest testing, starting with his preliminary comments.

Another site I consider to be independent is SecuritySpread. He has a somewhat larger number of samples and he continuously tests as software updates are available.

There testing certainly isn't perfect and does not test all the features of every product, but I trust both of these individuals to be free of any bias and the tests to be adequate in the performance of their major purpose.
