Screensaver does not work after upgrade to Mavericks

Since upgrading the screensaver on my MacBook Air 2012 does not activate. It is set to a 10 minute delay. Any ideas please?

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9), 13"

In my case the problem with screensaver loading pictures for ever was in damaged iPhoto library.

It contained reference to photos stored on network drive which was not in use anymore.

I tried many tools & methods described here, but here's two that were helpful in my case:

1. Renaming iPhoto/Aperture library - worked out, but such solution just temporary.

As soon as you connect renamed library to iPhoto/Apperture the problem reiterates.

2. Use iPhoto Library Manager - that's what did solve the issue.

I completely rebuilt library with it and finally fixed all "broken" references.

Whole thing took a long time but it's worth to try.

Just try it

Thanks Vitaal,

In this case I was only using one of the built in set of screensaver images that is shipped with Mavericks.

At the risk of being considered a luddite I don't use iPhoto. I still keep all my photos as individual files in various directories in Pictures. The problem was on my MacBook Air and I don't keep permanent picture files on there. On my Mini I just point the screensaver at the appropriate folder in Pictures and that works fine.

I converted from Windows just over a year ago and didn't use photo management software there either. Until I am convinced that there is a seamless and quick method of moving my photos, tens of thousands, I will stick to simplicity!

Many thanks for taking the trouble to respond.

Hi Bob,

I fully support your point regarding simplicity! That's what I miss on OSX comparing with Windows.

But if you keep ten of thousands photos in Picture folder - this could be a problem for screensaver:)

Also if you ever used iPhoto or Aperture these programs create their own libraries anyway.

And if you removed/deleted photos that was edited in these apps afterwards, the library will be "damaged" and this will make screensaver not working.

Who knew that such "not-obvious" **** possible in "most advanced" OS from Apple...

Yes,

I'm a bit underwhelmed with the combined iOS7 and OSX releases. In OSX I used to be able to drag an e-mail on to Reminders to create a diary note for follow-up. That has gone.

I can't see the point of having a reply notification for new mail because one hasn't even read the new message.

With calendar in OSX one can add travel time. Problem is that iOS7 can't display it DOH!!!

Strikes me that Apple hasn't learnt joined-up thinking.

Hey ho.....

Purchased a new MacBook Air last week and the screensaver does not commit after any duration start time : image is from the default library. Perhaps a glitch that will be remedied in the future ...

Not sure if people are experiencing the same promblem I am, but I also am not seeing any screensaver launch. I've tried several different screensavers and none of them work. In addition, I configured a hot corner to launch the screensaver manually, which now also does not work. I took a look at the system console and saw this:

2/2/14 11:54:00.853 PM loginwindow[1678]: ERROR | -[ScreenSaverDaemon _screenSaverStart:skipEarlyMouseCheck:overrideToBlackScreen:] | _LSOpenApplicationURL returned -10661

-10661 is an error for kLSExecutableIncorrectFormat, which means that the executable might not have been found, or something else. I can preview all of the screensavers without difficulty though. I should also mention that my drive is not formatted with the case-sensitivity option.

Hope this helps someone find the answer and I hope they post it here!
