IPad screen won't swipe or tap.

Help! All of a sudden, I cannot swipe or tap my IPad screen. I tried turning it off and back on. After several minutes, I discovered that if I hold the space (app, or number) then I double tap it, it responds. How can I get this back to "normal"? any suggestions?

I can't scroll, swipe, or tap the screen in any app or place.

Thanks. I tried that, but the problem still persists. When I touch an app, a box appears around it. Then I have to double tap to get it to opwn, etc. I managed to get to my settings, but cannot scroll or find the keyboard settings. Any other ideas?

I can't believe no one's understood this yet! What's happened is that VoiceOver is on. Triple-tap the Home button and double tap VoiceOver to turn it off. If this doesn't work, go to Settings then to Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off there.

VoiceOver is an accessibility feature designed to help people who have trouble seeing or using the screen. The double-tap is used to confirm input. The reason you couldn't scroll is also because it requires two fingers to scroll. Turning this off should solve your problem.

And finally, as others said, reset it if you have problems with it beyond this, or take it to an Apple Store for service.

I hope this helps clarify the whole situation a lot better.

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
