if i install tenfourfox, can i remove safari and firefox?

i use my ibook g4 for photo editing mostly so i'd rather not have uneccessary files. i'm thinking about switching to the tenfourfox broswer because safari 4.1.3 and firefox 3.6.28 have performed poorly for me.

if i install tenfourfox, are there any consequences to removing safari and firefox?

if not, should i remove them before or after installing tenfourfox?

thank you so much for any advice given,

amber

As Safari is included in OS X, there may be some difficulties through the uninstallation process. You will have to use the Terminal to remove it by using the "rm" command, which can be dangerous. Apart from that, you can uninstall Firefox without any problem by deleting it from the Applications folder to keep TenFourFox

Your computer would be better off with Safari left where it was installed primarily because through that browser you can choose to have another browser be your primary default browser.

So, you can enter into Safari and choose a different browser to be the System's Default browser; this can be a very good option since it will not stop you from using as many browsers as you may need in order to be online successfully.

I have six browsers in my Mini 1.5GHz G4, and the hard drive capacity total is about 100GB; free space shows to be less than half full. At times I need to ration what I am trying to run, and pay attention to System Profiler, Activity Monitor, and Disk Utility; since some of their information can show where the resources are going.

Also, if you have Dashboard in use, you can (maybe) still find a free utility widget to force-quit Dashboard and then free-up the RAM it holds back from other application & system use. I probably have the older version of DashQuit for Tiger as well as one for Leopard 10.5; but all my Macs now are running Leopard 10.5.8 even though I really appreciated how well Tiger 10.4.11 had evolved. It was probably the best Mac OS X so far.

Anyway, I am signing off at this time.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

PS:

You can't run some of these browsers simultaneously, as they share system files and bookmarks, etc; so FireFox should be pulled from the Dock if you have TenFourFox 17 installed, so you won't run both and mess up the files that support either one. TenFourFox will adapt FireFox settings, and some of them won't work because the plugins (flash player, etc) will be off by default. Another fair browser to try and get is SeaMonkey for PPC. Also look into iCab even though it has an annoying prompt to buy it, it will run and without charge until you decide to make it a fulltime browser. Opera is no longer currently supported for Tiger or Leopard; but I still have the last version. Camino browser no longer has support, but it was OK until some flash issue developed...!
