My reminders are not working

I recently bought a 5s, and since I have had it none of my reminders which are set to repeat, work. If I set a one off reminder, it works fine, but not if set to repeat. Before this phone I had a 3GS, and it had the same problem which started in August. I assumed that because the phone was old it was a fault with the phone and it was one of the reasons I finally decided to upgrade. Only to find I still have the same problem... I depend heavily on repeating reminders to stay organised and the app is really letting me down. I doubt it's an iOS 7 specific problem like some have suggested as my 3GS was iOS 6 and had the same issue.

I've also tried testing with iCloud switched on and off. Doesn't make any difference...

Any help really appreciated. I've tried looking online for a solution, but only a few people have raised this issue and no solution seems to have been found.

Cheers

Nathalie

Hi all

None of this worked for me, haven't used reminders on my past two phones so that's over 4 years now!

Just tried again, deleted app and reinstalled, checked mail settings, still blank screen once reminders app is opened.....

.....then I turned on iCloud reminders

(Go Settings, iCloud, turn on Reminders)

And it worked!!! About 13 reminders popped up that I set from about 5years ago!!

Hello there, Nathalie.

The following Knowledge Base article provides some great recommendations for troubleshooting your issue:

iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Reminders and Tasks

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4000

Particularly:

Troubleshooting Reminders on iOS devices

If you're having trouble with Reminders on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:

  • Make sure that you're using iOS 5 or later. If you meet these requirements but your issue continues, tryinstalling the latest version of iOS supported by your device.
  • Make sure that your iCloud account is configured correctly in Settings. For instructions on setting up iOS for iCloud, see iCloud Setup. Reminders is a separate data type on iOS. It must be enabled via the Reminders setting in Settings > iCloud.
  • Make sure your iOS device is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud Reminders will not update in Calendar. Learn about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
  • Open a secure website to test if ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Reminders requires port 443 access to iCloud to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Calendar and Reminders servers.
  • If recent changes don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 7:
    • Open the Calendar app.
    • Tap the Calendars tab to load the Calendars list.
    • Pull down on the list to refresh both calendar events and reminders.
  • If recent changes simply don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 6 and 5:
    • Open the Calendar app.
    • Tap Calendars in the top-left corner to load the Calendars list.
    • Tap the Refresh button in the lower-left of the Calendars list.
  • Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
    1. In iOS 7, press the Home button.
    2. Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
    3. Find the Reminders preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
  • Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
    1. In iOS 6 and iOS 5, press the Home button.
    2. Press the Home button twice to open the multitasking menu.
    3. Press and hold the Reminders icon until it jiggles.
    4. Tap the red circle in the upper-left corner to quit the app.
    5. Press the Home button to get back to your Home screen. Wait a minute before reopening the Calendar app.
  • Change the Sync settings for your calendars:
    1. In iOS 7 and iOS 6, tap Settings > Reminders.
    2. In iOS 5, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then scroll down to the bottom to the Reminders section.
    3. TapSync. If Sync is set to All Reminders, set it to a specific duration, such as Reminders 1 Month Back. If it's already set to a specific duration, set it to All Reminders.
    4. Wait several minutes and refresh again, as described previously. Then open the Reminders app again.
  • Turn iCloud Reminders off and back on:
    1. Tap Settings > iCloud.
    2. Turn off Reminders. Choose to delete data only if your reminders exist at icloud.com/#reminders and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
    3. Wait a few minutes before turning Reminders back on.
  • Restart your iOS device: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. After the device turns off, turn it back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

Is there a way to use Reminders and Siri without using/having an iCloud account (because in iOS 6 on iPhones 4 and 4s it works just fine without iCloud)?

If your answer is "no", I think it really crappy that we're required to have an iCloud account to use a core functions like Siri/Reminders. Apple is already data-mining so many things like our contacts and email accounts...Why are we required to put our private lives on a "cloud"?

Hello, I am beyond frustrated. I have an IPhone 5. I too am having Reminders problems, my issue is with alerts that I put in and they literally disappear when I open the app or don't go on at the alert time. I have worked with Apple Support, with 3 different people for 2 days on this problem and just got a replacement phone because because it was still under warantee and thought to be a manufactorer's defect. Since I carefully installed my data (not just a straight restore), the problem continues. I did upgrade to 7.1 as well no difference and since having my new phone a day the problem is happening again. My husband thinks the data (possibly contacts and calendar info) is corrupt and I am just bringing it back to the phone and the only way to fix it is to start with a clean phone and then enter all contacts and info back in manually. Have any of you had any solutions other than just giving up on this app? Any suggestions are welcome.

Good luck to all of us.

Hi everyone, I have suffered from the same issue as all of you. For months, I actually thought a specific app was deleting my tasks/reminders. It wasn't until I tried another app that I realized my reminders on my phone were the issue! I found this message board and many others in search of an answer. All of the suggestions didn't work, such as turning iCloud reminders on and off, closing and reopening the reminders app, restarting my phone, etc. In frustration, I played around with the settings on my own. I discovered that under settings>Mail, contacts, calendar there were two accounts, iCloud and Yahoo (my email). I turned the reminders off on my yahoo account. This did delete some reminder lists I had set up, but obviously they were not retaining the reminder times anyways. But once I created a new reminder, the information held and seemed to stay intact! My guess is that the two accounts were conflicting, and a reminder on one but not both, led to the deleting of reminders.

I am very proud that I solved this, because normally my boyfriend handles all of my tech problems 🙂

Hopefully this can solve yours as well!

I've been struggling with this for months!! Even went to the Apple Store today and 2 reps told me that the reminders app is no longer in use and to use the Calendar app for events??? One even said they basically do the same thing and an update will come up within the next year..

I was so disappointed.. But then I found your post and it worked!! You are a lifesaver!! THANK YOU SO MUCH KALEYTIA!!!
