Q: iTunes 11.1 does not recognise Apple TV

My 1st generation Apple TV no longer appears in the device list after upgrading to iTunes 11.1. There used to be a tab in iTunes preferences for Apple TV but this has now disappeared. How do I reconnect my Apple TV in order to synchonised content?

Apple TV, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

    Hey ChrisSum,

I would suggest going through the recommended troubleshooting steps for that issue in the following article:

Thanks but have done all this and this is now an archived article, which is no longer being updated by Apple. The issue remains that the Apple TV tab has now "disappeared" from iTunes preferences, so there seems no way to connect the device to iTunes.

I have the same problem.  Did you ever find a useful answer?  The ones given here do not help.

    Thanks,

I ended up fixing it by doing the following:

On the Apple TV menu went to "computers" and deleted the link to the itunes database that is on my imac.  The link was grayed out anyway so I think there could have been an issue of the appleTV and the computer linking to each other.  Weird since I had this AppleTV and computer for years and never had a problem.

Anyway, then I created a new link, and the appleTV reappeared on the computer.  The only problem with this is that when you delete the original link it also deletes all the music and files in the apple tv, so when created the new link I had to download all the music, videos and photos again, which took hours as I have a lot.  But it works again and short of the time spent was only a nuissance.  Hope this helps you, as I tried everything else before and nothing worked until I redid the linking between appletv and computer.

Thanks for the response.  I tried that earlier, it looks like I have a different problem.  Very occasionally the Apple TV shows up in iTunes but often disappears when clicked on, so it looks like some kind of network problem - except that access to the iTunes store from the Apple TV works just fine and they're on the same network just metres apart, so it's very odd they'd have trouble creating and maintaining a connection.

Ah well, thanks for letting me know what worked for you.

Fantastic, this worked for me too. Apple TV is now visible in iTunes again and syncing properly. Well done for figuring this out!

    Hey,

I had the same apparent problem although the cause was different. I actually haden't used my ATV (gen 1) in a while when I plugged it in it wasn't showing up on iTunes even though my iPad was. I tried troubleshooting the ATV and nothing worked. I ended up fixing my problem so I just wanted to share here in case someone has the same issue.

Turns out the solution to my problem was neither on ATV or iTunes but rather on my TimeCapsule. I updated the firmware and just like that my ATV showed up on iTunes immediatly. Hope this helps someone else out.

    Cheers
