kernel panic missing driver
My roomate was trying to do a software update on his macbook pro, and was restarting his computer when the following error occurred:
panic (cpu 0 caller caller 0xffffff800e059241): "Unable to to find a driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"0/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2050.20.9/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1 548
Debugger called: <panic>
Backtrace (CPU 0), Frame: Return Address
(bunch of hexadecimal addresses here)
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Unknown
Mac OS version:
Not yet set
Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 12.2.1: (Date here)
(more stuff here)
This error persists with restarts. I tried safemode, it will not work. I started into the mac hardware check, and ran a regular scan (not extended), which showed no problems with hardware. So, I assume the missing driver is the only problem. I booted into recovery mode and repaired the disk using disk utility and then tried to reinstall the OS, but it said something like "there is not a licensed OS on this computer". I figure he has to somehow reinstall the OS from recovery mode to fix the missing driver issue, but I'm not sure how to do that. There is no apple support centers nearby, and the college tech support can be a pain, so if I can help him fix it by myself that would be nice.
EDIT: I just remembered he did mention his computer has been a little slow the past couple weeks, but I'm not sure if that's related to this issue.
