2013 Macbook Air Sound Issues

All... I fixed this -- at least for me. Actually, my daughter did. Somehow. Here was my issue. After having no issues, if my computer went to sleep, I would come back and it would have no sound. But my issue was Bluetooth. If I disabled Bluetooth, sound worked fine. Try it. Hope it helps someone.

I am also having the problem, starting today, of having the sound turn off when I use my headphones. I have had to restart twice today. Restarting leads me to believe this is not hardware, but software.

I've found that the sounds seems to stop working if you put the machine to sleep with headphones plugged in, regardless of whether something is playing or not. Will try testing a few scenarios and report back.

Same issue - brand new Macbook Air. Is there an official Apple response? "Thin, magical, $1.8K, complete with no sound" isn't really great marketing.

Despite turning off Bluetooth, I am still having this problem.

I'll be returning my machine, following Apple protocol, and they'll have to do their routine exam of the machine.

Once done, I'll let you know what I have learned.

I have tried doing just that to reproduce the issue in my Macbook Air(2013) when I heard about it. No issues. I can resume playback when I reopen the laptop.

Based on what I know from other users and myself, the sound issue is not a common one, but rather one that affects a few of the computers manufactured. I would suggest that you get yours repaired/replaced by apple asap before your warranty expires.

Regarding the sleep-triggered black screen issue. This apprently is a firmware issue and rumor has it that the next update of OSX(10.9.2, which hopefully will come out in a few weeks) will have a "fix" for it. Apple Developers who have access to it right now(Mac Development Program subscription) will be able to confirm this(check if you know any of them). No point in talking to the customer care about it. yeah... lol... no idea what they were thinking. But my guess is that their leadership was in a hurry to release a new product while the products were not really ready.

I would still suggest that you have apple repair/replace it. Most users like myself don't have this issue at all(irrespective of bluetooth too)

'Based on what you know' - sorry, can you be more specific - I'm not going to part with my MacAir on the supposition that its hardware issue unless I hear some technical explaination, which amounts to more than "trust me, I know" - nothing personal, but I am too reliant on my MacAir, the down -time would kill me..

Yes, I'm having the same issue with my "thin, magical, $1.8K, complete with no sound" MacAir. Its incredibly annoying, and I suspect its not a hardware problem.

got 2 airs, problematic is the mavericked one

I am having the same problem, but have never - not even once - plugged any headphones into my brand new MacBook Air (had it for just two weeks - it still has that "new computer smell"). All sound is absent now, though the settings all indicate it should be working fine. But the only thing I did differently from all the other times I've used this computer is that last night, instead of plugging it in and shutting the lid, I simply shut the lid without plugging the machine into a power source.

Anyone have any idea what is happening here? Anyone? Anyone?

Just called apple tech support. Guy walked me through the exact same steps and now everything works.
