My old Macbookpro cannot download 10.6 operating system why?

I was trying to download the latest Adobe flash software on my Macbook Pro 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM with 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. However, Adobe does not give an option to download their latest software unless you have Apple OS X version 10.6 or higher. I have only 10.5.8. What can I do? I realize that my computer has a very old OS X version, Leopard. I am a bit afraid to upgrade that system since when I upgraded a newer Laptop with the same system, it does not seem to have gone well and having lots of problems with that computer now.

Would appreciate any advice.

MacBook Pro, iOS 5
