My late 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina occasionally does not wake up when lid is opened.

It doesn't happen all the time; but I never know when it might. On those occasions, the computer appears to be completely unresponsive, so I hold down the power key until the computer restarts... but maybe I'm missing something, and there's some other reason why it's simply slow to wake up and I'm being too impatient?

Has anyone else had this problem, or heard about it? Or am I, in fact, being impatient? Is there a solution to this issue other than restarting?

Just adding my voice to this problem - hopefully Apple takes note, otherwise they'll have another refurb on their hands.

I've had Apple Support walk we through resetting my hardware and this acted more as a placebo for me since this issue is intermittent in my experience. I hate having to haul my MBP down to the store when I believe (like many in the discussion here) that this is Apple's problem, and that it is software related. Bottom line here: Apple, PLEASE FIX MY +$1K COMPUTER! It hasnt' woken properly since day 1.....

I just made an entry on another thread for this problem. I have a 2013 15" rmbp purchased on Oct 25, and it occasionally won't wake from sleep. I've tried all the suggestions, but it happened again today exactly as quoted in this thread. After sleeping all night, it won't wake until I've pressed the power button for a few seconds. There is no keyboard light or anything. I, too, hate to take it to the Apple store, but I have Apple Care so, I will if it keeps happening.

OK....Did the log in thing, put the lid down for 4 to 5 hrs and came back to do some work and hey presto....you guessd!! However,I'm stsrting to lean towards the charger or in put socket.. i mention this because, this problem happens conssitantly more after I've had the charger plugged in. It will still happen to some degree way passed a charge period but I'm wondering is it linked...I went for approx two days without the problem happening. in that preiod of two days, I was opening and shutting the lid after varying periods of time - including an over night. To conclude, I think it's either a mother board/power supply/batter issue!!!! And my guess is that it's a specific Batch!! Can you all try this experiment: see if you can ease off using you MBP for a two day period with out having to charge. after the second day, do a full charge, use your MBP for a few hours before you go to bed and next morn see if it starts up with nothing plugged in.

OK, now let's see if Apple has solved this problem in OS X 10.9.1 which has just come out today

I read the bullet points on the issues in which this update is supposed to tackle and it doesn't mention anything about this 'refusal to wake-up' issue we're having, you never know though!

Well, that's true. But the update note in Mac App Store on my late 2013 mpbr 15'' says:

"This update is recommended for all 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Late 2013) systems. It includes all updates from OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 plus system specific enhancements to improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac."

After the update everything was going ok ( few days or so) until now.....same old!!!!

I'm starting to wonder whether or not this is a hardware fault, with this thread only having a few people posting on it. However the issue seems too intermittent for it to be a hardware fault, with it only ever happening on long sleeps. If there was something wrong with the sensor that senses the lid being opened then it would be problematic equally as much on short sleeps, which it isn't. What a blag this is.

There are other threads with the same kind of problem but just started off with a slightly different heading/subject line.

Its an erratic and intermittent problem it’s proving to become very difficult to pin down. If it's a software/instability issue, how do we know...What ever amount of users have a complaint, Apple should have a way of picking up on it and posting known issues that have been passed on and then informing the customers how far down the line they are with rectifying it. Unless Apple have enough complaints (what ever they deem to be worthy of to looking in to), then we will remain in the dark.... Big corporation syndrome!!!!
