Dec 3, 2013 6:16 AM in response to Supreemby RevCamlin,I've done the same. This is a good suggestion! Traditional hard disks need to be put to sleep to conserve energy, but flash storage (it seems to me) shouldn't need to be put to sleep to conserve energy, since there are no moving parts.
If anything, Apple should simply disable (or at least recommend the disabling of) this preference in its computers that use flash storage.
Thanks, Supreem! I look forward to seeing if it works.

Dec 4, 2013 12:13 AM in response to RevCamlinby TobiasKruse,Hey guys,
having the same issue with my rMBP 15" 2013. Make sure to check this post:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5500276?start=120&tstart=0
it seems to be connected to the USB port, and here especially with devices needing an external power supply. Check the post of digitalmen on page 9 for example.
Replacing machines did not help a single user.
Hope it gets resolved soon.

Dec 4, 2013 2:35 AM in response to RevCamlinby ncon64,★HelpfulGuess What...? woke up this morn, opened the lid... and yes, it happened again!!!. Had to press on switch for a few seconds and then re-press on switch again (no matter how long i press the firstt time, it won't come on) and then wait approx 6 seconds for it to come on..I think there are a lot more than just us with this issue who are just living with it!! I've swicthed energy saving back to default. Surely, we shouldn't have to close all open programs down and turn off the lap top every night.....Or, maybe we do??

Dec 4, 2013 2:56 AM in response to TobiasKruseby Supreem,Thanks for the link and info Tobias, it's quite clear that there are some serious issues between the new USB ports, the firmware and/or Mavericks, issues which are casuing multiple different types of problems i.e. trackpad and keyboard lock ups, wake-up failures etc

Dec 4, 2013 10:33 AM in response to ncon64by RevCamlin,ncon,
Same here. I opened my computer this morning to find that it had crashed and restarted in my absence (which is another way this problem has manifested itself at various times in the past). Everytime it happens, I click to send the report to Apple, so that, at least in theory, they are aware of the issue. Whether or not Apple is paying attention is anyone's guess.
Tobias, I'm intrigued by the notion that it may be a powered USB / firmware issue. I have a 4-port hub connected to my computer, which connects my printer, a wireless mouse dongle, and a Seagate external back-up drive. I wonder now if unplugging that hub each night would solve the problem? Guess we'll see!

Dec 4, 2013 1:26 PM in response to RevCamlinby jcarpentercc,On the USB issue, I never leave anything plugged into my computer overnight, so I don't think that's the problem. Unless there's more than one cause of this problem...

Me neither, I hardly have a USB plugged in at all, maybe a couple of minutes on the odd day, but never left plugged in at night. There's something funny going on with the USB and firmware due to the strange amount of logs being preoduced in the 'Console', but as far as not waking up due to a USB being plugged in, that's not the case with mine.
Let's hope Apple iron out all these kinks in the next round of firmware updates, if not then I'm going to be seeing a lot of them! (i.e. Apple employees)

Dec 4, 2013 11:59 PM in response to RevCamlinby TobiasKruse,Hey guys,
just tested the USB-theory posted in the link (see my post from above, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5500276?start=120&tstart=0).
The USB connection seems to be the problem with me. I ejected all devices overnight, unplugged USB, put my mac to sleep - and it woke up the next morning without problems.
I can only recommend to check out this post and check weather it applies to you. A lot of people seem to be affected by that...

Dec 5, 2013 3:40 AM in response to RevCamlinby ncon64,I've never had anything plugged into the USB...occasionally will have the power cable in over night. But it will still happen with or without the cable in. I'm actually frustrated the way Apple make it soooo difficult to open themselves up to learn about potential faults in their products. I have everything Apple because it has been so effeciant. Now, I'm starting to worry about how sales pitch and sales have become more important than customer service.....They need to be on top of these type of issues which have been highlighted. I'd like to see them regulary post out on their webs sites issues that have come to light and encourage a response from their customers on whether or not that have those same issues....priorities , deal with and give regular feedback on how they are progressing with those issues.... A bit like the way our cable company operate when they have problems Ina given area..........So frustrating!!!!!!!

Dec 6, 2013 2:14 PM in response to ncon64by Supreem,Had any luck with the wake up issue? I've just been turning mine off at night rather than putting it to sleep. Mine wakes up fine on short sleeps, it's just the long night sleeps where it won't wake up, I might give it a go at sleeping again tonight and see what happens in the morning.
-
Dec 6, 2013 3:48 PM in response to Supreemby ncon64,Same with mine - ok with short rests but long (over night ) it's more likely not going to start up from sleep. Still hoping Apple will read and take note of customers concerns over this issue. On that note, how does one force complaint further up the line?

Dec 7, 2013 3:38 AM in response to Supreemby Supreem,I put my 13" rMBP to sleep for 6 hours last night and this morning it woke up fine, not that means much as it could possibly do it again on a longer sleep period, I'll try again tonight and leave it for about 7 or 8 hours and report back.
-
Dec 9, 2013 2:41 PM in response to RevCamlinby McPerlt,I was ready today to call this issue dependent on the length of the sleep period, where longer sleep=greater chance of failing to wake, but today I closed my (2013 15" retina) MBP when I left work and it failed to wake only a few hours later, after getting home.
I think the USB-related issue mentioned in the other quoted post is a separate issue from the "black screen" unprovoked failure to wake from sleep that is discussed here.

Dec 9, 2013 3:06 PM in response to Supreemby ncon64,Same here....Left it over night and opened fine and during the day closed for at least 8 hrs and opened without a hitch. It's obviously an intermttent problem but what causes it is still a mistery!! COME ON APPLE...what the **** is it??
