Dec 9, 2013 11:27 PM in response to ncon64by devkernel,Every morning I find my MBPr hung with a black screen and no keyboard backlight, I do not have any USB devices connected.
On time out of ten, symptoms are a bit different and the keyboard backlight are turning on when I open the lid, but MBPr still hung and no screen anyway. Only solution, as already stated multiple times here, is to hard power off.
This is becoming quite an annoying issue and I would expect Apple to have fixed this issue by now. It is very easily reproducible (100% reproducibility on my side) and probably touches every MBPr out there. After the keyboard/trackpad stuck issue, this second critical issue shows there was a clear lack of testing.
Shall we just flood every news/blog/tweet out there so Apple prioritizes this issue?

Dec 15, 2013 8:53 AM in response to Supreemby Get Kidnapped,I made the settings 2 weeks ago. But today late 2013 retina mpb 15'' couldn't wake up again. So settings suggested doesn't work for me.

Dec 15, 2013 10:31 AM in response to RevCamlinby ApleRoks,Just adding my voice to this problem - hopefully Apple takes note, otherwise they'll have another refurb on their hands.
I've had Apple Support walk we through resetting my hardware and this acted more as a placebo for me since this issue is intermittent in my experience. I hate having to haul my MBP down to the store when I believe (like many in the discussion here) that this is Apple's problem, and that it is software related. Bottom line here: Apple, PLEASE FIX MY +$1K COMPUTER! It hasnt' woken properly since day 1.....

Dec 15, 2013 12:36 PM in response to ApleRoksby Sandylp,I just made an entry on another thread for this problem. I have a 2013 15" rmbp purchased on Oct 25, and it occasionally won't wake from sleep. I've tried all the suggestions, but it happened again today exactly as quoted in this thread. After sleeping all night, it won't wake until I've pressed the power button for a few seconds. There is no keyboard light or anything. I, too, hate to take it to the Apple store, but I have Apple Care so, I will if it keeps happening.

Dec 15, 2013 12:51 PM in response to RevCamlinby Tippo12,I found that for my macbook at least it helped significantly if you go to system preferences, then to users and groups, and login items, and then delete any login items you may have. I had three and after deleting them all, I haven't had this problem in the past few days or so.

Dec 16, 2013 4:44 AM in response to ncon64by ncon64,All I'd like to know from Apple is that they're aware of this issue and that they are working on it, The same way my cable company would inform their customers who are effected....That would be a start!!!!!!

Dec 16, 2013 12:50 PM in response to Tippo12by ncon64,OK....Did the log in thing, put the lid down for 4 to 5 hrs and came back to do some work and hey presto....you guessd!! However,I'm stsrting to lean towards the charger or in put socket.. i mention this because, this problem happens conssitantly more after I've had the charger plugged in. It will still happen to some degree way passed a charge period but I'm wondering is it linked...I went for approx two days without the problem happening. in that preiod of two days, I was opening and shutting the lid after varying periods of time - including an over night. To conclude, I think it's either a mother board/power supply/batter issue!!!! And my guess is that it's a specific Batch!! Can you all try this experiment: see if you can ease off using you MBP for a two day period with out having to charge. after the second day, do a full charge, use your MBP for a few hours before you go to bed and next morn see if it starts up with nothing plugged in.

I read the bullet points on the issues in which this update is supposed to tackle and it doesn't mention anything about this 'refusal to wake-up' issue we're having, you never know though!

Well, that's true. But the update note in Mac App Store on my late 2013 mpbr 15'' says:
"This update is recommended for all 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Late 2013) systems. It includes all updates from OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 plus system specific enhancements to improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac."

I'm starting to wonder whether or not this is a hardware fault, with this thread only having a few people posting on it. However the issue seems too intermittent for it to be a hardware fault, with it only ever happening on long sleeps. If there was something wrong with the sensor that senses the lid being opened then it would be problematic equally as much on short sleeps, which it isn't. What a blag this is.
